Some of the posts in this thread illustrate why this is a good move.
Shit has been banned in Canada for, well forever? We can't even sell spirit + red bull in the same glass here, have to give the can and the user which has to be the one mixing it. Caffeine+Alcohol is retarded though, there's so many good things to do with alcohol and/or so much better ways to get smashed real quick for cheap.

Farewell, pre-mixed Jack and Coke, I hardly knew ye.
But seriously, if the FDA says caffeine is an "unsafe additive" to alcoholic beverages, can bars continue to serve drinks that mix alcohol and caffeine? My favorite drink at a bar is Jameson's and Coke.
alcoholic drinks + caffeine = ban
alcoholic drinks + soda with caffeine = all good bro
baby boomers ruining things yet again
THIS IS FUCKING TERRIBLE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
HOW WILL THIS EFFECT MY JAGER BOMBS?
You guys are seriously overestimating the effects of caffeine. It's not like they mixed crack in the can. Honestly caffeine does nothing to me, besides occasionally actually make me sleepy. With the amount of caffeine most people drink anyway, their tolerance will ensure the one cup of coffee caffeine in a can will do absolutely nothing.
caffeine affects everyone differently, and for most people their sensitivity to caffeine actually increases as they get older

Fourloko is removing the caffeine from their drank.
That's funny because the dangerous part is the 12% alcohol, not the caffeine. Kids will still down it like water and get alcohol poisoning so that changes nothing![]()
Part of the danger is caffeine, as it wakes you up when normally you'd be lying face down too drunk to even walk. Of course the high alcohol content and virtually no taste doesn't help, but the caffeine in itself is indeed harmful, even though it isn't the devil like the baby boomers try to show it to be, but it definitely isn't too far fetched to ban shit like that.
the danger is that alcohol is a depressant, caffeine is a stimulant, so when you combine them the effects can counteract each other to a degree. Rather than passing out when you get too drunk you can drink more, or you don't realize the effects of the alcohol as readily as you would by itself. There's no actual danger in either of those two things or mixing them, the problem is that the combination allows people to go past their limits without realizing them. It's more of a problem of personal responsibility than biochemistry, personally I don't feel like it needs to be legislated but whatever
it's not any more or less dangerous, the reason the law is stupid is because people can just as easily mix the two things together on their own but the dangers of combining alcohol and caffeine are still going to exist
With this phrasing:
The opening for a lawsuit next time someone too drunk to drive "feels fine" "because of the caffeine" from her rum and cokes at a bar and drives off a cliff is going to be gigantic. If the FDA clearly states that it is unsafe, how can any bar owner feel comfortable serving any drink that combines the two?The FDA is expected to say that caffeine is an unsafe food additive to alcoholic drinks
This is a litigious nightmare waiting to happen.
I hope you guys are ready for caffeine-free coke to be flowing from the nozzles of bar-taps everywhere. Shit tastes awful.
Not only that, drinks like Long Islands would be a thing of the past since they had a splash of coke to it. There's a decent amount of mixed drinks that use soda.
