Yeah bollocks to going into debt for a ridiculously priced ring. I didn't want some stupid fucking bling bling engagement ring because I'd be too fucking scared to wear it! If you're worried about being someone who might damage a ring and that's why you're looking at tungsten - worth just looking into insurance instead - I got my engagement ring insured, and did have to call it in when my hand got jammed between a cooker and a wall while moving furniture into our new house.

My wedding band was relatively cheap - didn't like any of the expensive ones!

I have titanium. It was, like, $90. Spend money on the wifes ring, noone cares about yours.
Plus most men, depending on their jobs, don't wear them.

Elemental tungsten will crack, tungsten carbide will crack if you place it between the anvils of a high strength press.

    They sound cool.

I've been looking at them myself.
Kinda want a tungsten version of one of those mobius rings:

We had a wrap designed for my wifes engagement ring for a wedding band. That way, we made good use of the engagement ring. Turned out incredibly awesome and unique. Suprisingly, not terribly expensive either.

I've got a tungsten ring and a "white" gold ring. Neither of them are scratched or otherwise marred. Like Sath said, you ain't gettin' that shit resized if you're in-between sizes. I'm like Sath in that my knuckles are big, so I can't slip a typically sized ring over my finger. I wore the tungsten ring on my middle finger for a while, but the fit was a bit too tight on my finger. I had shoved it on with a lot of force, and getting it back off was painful to say the least. Now I have the opposite problem wearing it on the ring finger of my right hand. The ring literally goes flying off my finger and across a room if I'm not careful. As an example I have a habit of violently shaking my hands to get excess water off after I wash my hands, and there's been several times that the ring has flown right the fuck off across the room, or one time into the sink's drain (yay for fishing it out of the garbage disposal.) Still a nice looking and inexpensive ring. Easily replaced if it goes sailing off into the blue due to my own stupidity.

    Considering I spent about 16-50 times (depending on which of the TC styles I choose) what this ring would cost me on the wife I don't think that's a concern for me or her. The only possible cheaper alternative is Titanium or Stainless/Sterling, and Titanium is only slightly cheaper. Already weighing Titanium as an option, and not going Sterling as it's not my bag. If I wanted an expensive fashion statement I wouldn't be looking at cheaper rugged alternatives. >.> Thanks for your opinion anyway though.. ^^;

Moving on, thank you all for the helpful replies that's exactly what I was looking for. I'm not too concerned with the sizing problem due to lifetime resizing, but still something I'm keeping in mind, and I'll be sure to check it out in a brick+mortar store to make sure of my size. Good to hear many of you have had them for a long time with no problem fracturing/shattering them. I am aware they are not fragile but brittle, but there are several instances of TC rings being dropped onto marble and shattering, and a few videos on Youtube too (though the truth of these can't be determined, hence why I'm asking you!) Obviously, if I accidentally drop it on tile and it shatters or something that's not a very good choice for me, and I'd rather get something a bit softer.

Yep, the only problem there is if the finger is already swollen around the ring. If it's at that point, you're boned.

I would think a softer ring would be more of a problem in that regard as if your finger is already swollen to the extent that your flesh obscures access to the ring you would not be able to slide the ring saw under the ring to saw it off, and they are not able to fracture removed. Granted I don't know much about removing rings in the ER but the tool I saw on two different videos (one given by a jeweler and one by a doctor) the ring saw is just a little thing that hooks under the ring (to make sure you dont get cut), and is hooked into a power drill (lol). If that's the case I can't see how a severely tightened ring due to swelling would be able to be cut off either. Perhaps there is another saw as well? At any rate it's still something to think about, but for me personally I'm not too concerned with it.

This is coming from secondhand info from an emt that claims a gold ring can be cutoff even if the skin is swollen around it. Not entirely sure how as I havent researched it personally. But, these are unlikely occurrences unless your occupation involves heavy machinery or robot boxing. Like I said, I love mine, it's heavy, I won't lose it or damage it. Go with yer gut.

Neat I wonder how they manage that lol. Robot boxing does sound pretty fun... but I think I'll be safe in my day-to-day activities.

Thanks for the advice man I appreciate it! =D

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

My mom's ring lost her diamond about 2 years ago. They were able to cut her ring off easily and she's about 70+ pounds heavier than she was when she got married.

I also went with the titanium wedding band. I mean really, what else do you fucking need? It's cheap, durable, and if we lose it the wife isn't going to kick you in the balls for wasting a ton of money replacing it. Titanium is not very scratch resistant though. Mine is covered in scratches.

I can't help but feel everyone quoting this and agreeing didn't actually read the OP at all (or bother to look up what Tungsten Carbite is). You all sound like you think it's some kind of super duper space metal that is crazy expensive and rare lol. Tungsten Carbite is very cheap for a ring base material (compared to precious metals), and the only reason I was posting was to verify it's durability (as in won't accidentally break it) since vendors aren't exactly the best people to trust about "durability". I didn't say I was going to buy a $1000 ring (it's actually more like $150 after tax and engraving) for myself and shaft my significant other out that sum on her ring, and I couldn't care less if anyone looks at it or likes it besides myself, so I am not sure where this response is coming from. I would think researching all alternatives before diving into a purchase intended to last your lifetime would be a smart thing to do, and doesn't somehow imply you think you are important or that you want people to care about your ring.

Anyway, thanks for the comments about Titanium rings as I was also wanting to know how it held up over time and day-to-day activities, and they sound like they fair well outside of scratching (this was the whole point of looking at the tungsten). Cost is not much different between the two materials so it all comes down to how the metals perform/look/feel.

I think you're just getting offended for no reason. People are simply telling you that it isn't that damn important. It's a ring no one will care about, and that you'll likely lose at least once or twice. Get what you like without spending a lot of money.

My titanium band is scratched all to hell. I don't really care, nor does anyone else. Honestly, I didn't like the tungsten because it was too heavy. I'm sure you would get used to it, but it felt like an anvil compared to the Titanium.

I think the problem that people were trying to bring up is that because of its durability it is very difficult to re-size should you need to in the future. It looks great and the price is good, but I'd go with something else for long-term. If you're not concerned with having to replace it should you need a different size sometime in the future then go for it

Yes, resizing is indeed a concern, but one I think me and her both could live with, and have known since the start. We were just both concerned with it breaking during accidents like hitting a desk too hard or you know something like that since its easy to wang your ring on things like that when you aren't thinking.

Thank you for your advice though!

Some people (myself included) consider the heft a positive point, just sayin'.

Lots of places that sell them will resize with a replacement ring for little to no charge.
