I'd go with the army if I was in his situation. 22 is kinda old to first be getting into higher education. The army will take him most likely np AND pay for the education

Well, I'm already in classes. I'll get my AA at the end of the year, so once I have a piece of paper that says I actually did something, I'll decide what to do from there.

If he has never pled insanity before, it's not going to work here. Insanity is an applicable defense for the first and subsequent offenses. Try to plead it after his 5th arrest and the judge and the prosecution isn't buying it.
