    Valkyria Chronicles 3[PSP]

    http://i53.tinypic.com/5f3sbs.jpg

JP release date: January 27, 2011
    NA/EU: TBA

    Story
Taking place during the Second Europan War, Valkyria Chronicles III focuses on Gallian Army Squad 442, also known as "The Nameless". The Nameless are a penal military unit composed of deserters, criminals, and military offenders whose real names are erased from the records and thereon referred to by numbers. Ordered by the Gallian military to perform the most dangerous missions and dirty work that the Regular Army and Militia will not do, they are nevertheless up to the task, exemplified by their motto, "Altaha Abilia" ("Always Ready" in Latin.)

The main characters, Kurt Irving (Number 7), a disgraced army officer who wishes to redeem himself, Imca (Ace Number 1), a Darcsen Heavy Weapon specialist who seeks revenge against the Valkyrian who destroyed her home, and Riela Marceris (Number 13), a young woman who is viewed as a jinx for being the only the survivor of many army units she has been assigned, is unknowingly a descendant of the Valkyria, are tasked to fight against a mysterious Imperial unit known as "Calamity Raven".

    Demo has been released recently.

The Japanese demo showcases the new SP system.

An SP can be expended when certain characters begin their action phase in order to benefit from special abilities for that one phase.

No. 1 (Imca) can use a special mortar that targets every enemy in her field of view when fried.

No. 13 (Riela) activates her Valkyria powers and is rendered immune to enemy interception fire as well as being able to use a powerful single-target attack.

No. 7 (Kurt) gains the ability to have nearby allied infantry follow & fight with him during his action phase. The benefits of this are threefold: First, it allows other infantry to move without expending an additional CP. Second, less mobile units gain the movement range of a shocktrooper. Third, units 'lead' in this way can all lend supporting fire when Kurt attacks, including units that normally would be unable to (snipers & lancers for example.) Constraints like ammunition and range still apply.

In the demo the player has three SP to expend per mission.

So far, no other characters have been shown to have access to SP abilities.
I remember there being a post during TGS talking about the fourth being on PS3 possibly. They want to make the new PS3 entry a totally different game(please no fps VC) than the previous games.

VC2 was great on the PSP, deal with it.

On the second video: enemy AI now smart enough to take multiple turns with the same unit? Hopefully that's not just special boss behavior, and regular enemy units make use of it as well. VC2 was way too easy with all enemies ever only taking one turn (despite having shitloads of CP to spend).

Also, multitarget mortar = win. Wonder what changes they'll make to the VC2 class system. They need to keep going in that direction, it made the game so much more awesome.

Uh... enemies in VC2 took multiple turns on some missions. They just didn't always do it.
Actually, I remember seeing a lot more of it after reaching 2 star missions.

EDIT: Also, going into Valk mode with that chick seems to set your AP back to full (or maybe I'm not looking closely enough) so that's cool for moving far quickly.

EDIT2: Looking at the video, it was the enemy leader who took two turns. Even in VC2, that ALWAYS happened.

They don't do it often enough. I've seen enemy groups pass their turns with 6+ CP so many damn times. I hardly ever see any non-boss units make good use of it :/

That right there in the video you pointed it out on was also a boss, lol. (edited that into my previous comment, not sure if you saw it)
It's probably going to be the very same for VC3 as it was in 2... which I actually hope isn't true because of those seemingly broken as fuck SP abilities.

    Kurt's SP move is amazing.

Imagine 4 lancers support firing onto a boss tank O_o

The other two actually seem far more useful, but that's the thing about tactical games... always more than one way to skin a rabbit. Also, shit's situational. So depending on how the missions are set up, his might be great.
Initial impressions make the other two seem better to me though. (Especially if it's like before where a lancer can one shot a tank just by getting behind it)

I hope they don't add the epic random drop weapons in VC3. The weapons I got from bosses/random Aces have made my Tank 100% obsolete. Avan with a 7shot 350 range, 99 acc, def down gun, Marina with a Asgar g21 99 acc auto sniper, Marion with a 30 shot 90 Acc gun, Techs with swords that can 1 shot powered up V2s. It's just silly how over powered some of these weapons are.

Tanks were pretty obsolete to begin with because of APCs.

Light Tank B only costs 1 CP, and is pretty hax if you know how to fit it. My tank is way too OP

Never got much from light tanks. Cause APC + Flamethrower just kills motherfuckers. Then you can load up with fencers and snipers or whatever and you have a mobile death vehicle. Awesome. I only use tanks when there are a lot of gattling bunkers and shit I can't avoid, they tend to mow down APCs from the side and back.

I was mostly like this, but I did use Light Tank B on the September mission where you need to take out Audrey's... that's pretty much the only time ever after I discovered the glory of APCs.
I couldn't seem to get A rank easily without a tank for that one since nothing else really seemed to do much damage to her tank. I was actually able to get 2 lancers behind her and one in front and a whole round of CP didn't take out her tank yet like 3 blasts from the tank had it done.

I liked using a tank on VC2, but I haven't played very far in. I was hoping the next would be PS3, but that looks pretty cool. Guess we'll find out.

My light tank b has a flamethrower too, and rapes everything I guess I could probably go back to ACP.

There is some broken tank weapon you can get really early, but I don't think I have it

Sega shared details today on the weapons and special abilities for Valkyria Chronicles 3 primary characters Kurt Irving, Reila Marcellis and Imca. Read on for all the info and screens, along with a quick look at a two new members of the Nameless group.

Kurt, Reila and Imca have the hidden ability to unleash a special skill by using up SP (Special Points), a parameter that's shared across your entire squad. Here's a look at each characters ability.

    Kurt Irving: Direct Command

When you've trigged Direct Command, you're free to move Kurt around without depleting your Action Point gauge. During this time, allies who are in Kurt's company will not incur damage.

    Reila Marcellis: Valkyria

Reila changes into Valkyria form, becoming invincible and and making use of her Valkyria Sphere and Shield. The sphere can send out a powerful beam capable of dealing damage to any type of enemy troop, even tanks.

Reila encounters a mysterious lady in the forest. Don't you want to know what you really are? asks the mysterious lady.

    Imca: Open Fire

Imca unleashes her Vár weapon to blast all on-screen enemies. One suggested use for this is when you have all enemies gathered in one spot.

Vár is an original weapon which combines a Gallian rifle with an anti-tank Lancer. It has length 173cm (190cm to the blade tip) and is very heavy. Its bullets are capable of damaging tanks, so Open Fire is useful against all types of troops.

Only Imca is capable of using Vár. In fact, she keeps using Vár regardless of the solider type you've changed into.

    NEW NAMELESS MEMBERS

Sega also provided looks at two more members of the Nameless squad.

To the left is Felix, No.21. He's a "big brother" type with leadership abilities and a strong sense of justice. He was once part of the proper army but filed a complaint of some form against an incompetent commanding officer and was thus sent to the Nameless.

To the right is Valerie, No. 12. A former historian, she was searching for the truths behind the Darcsen Calamity and repeatedly attempted to trespass on historical ruins.

This could be ridiculous... Scout movement with an anti-tank weapon and an ability that lets you blast everything on screen? Damn.

Yep, called it ages ago... she's going to be the most broken character there is. More than the main dude and more than the Valkyria chick.
