I have absolutely no interest in blind farming "trash" mobs, which is mnk's main strength in my personal opinion. As for a ridiculous counter rate - I don't understand, I take 0 dmg on most NMs, and if I do take dmg, its purely from effects that ignore shadows (Tarsal Slam) that a monk isn't countering anyway. Does counter add some damage? I'm sure it does. Do I think it matters? Not really, I prefer the added survivability of nin (extra shadows, ability to get slow/blind myself, Migawari) + more red proc WSes. Also, I may be underrating a mnk evasion tanking, but evasion seems counter-intuitive with counterstance, so I'm going to go ahead and put evasion as a bonus to mnk (even if the skill difference is <15), also, most mnks I know think their counter set is something worth talking about and don't even have an evasion set (yes, I realize good ones probably do). Added to that nin has 1/8th grellow chance, and I can get azures solo perfectly fine if I feel like soloing for an extended amount of time....and continuing on that, I feel far safer soloing the t2 Diremite for example on nin than I do on mnk. Yea, I could 2box it with mnk, but that's just a lot more effort and I'm lazy. Of course, this is all moot for me personally since I have Kannagi and don't even have WoE Victory Smite.
