this is amazing. i work with Revit Architecture (the program he mentions) and to have a holographic tile image of a building that is fully interactive by zooming in/out and being able to do a 3D walkthrough is astounding. in theory you could tile together several different sized pieces to create a holographic city each with its own properties. one step closer to a futuristic reality similar to what you see in movies. pair this with motion capture like the Kinect and you have yourself something pretty wicked...

Holy fuck.
It's a cute idea, ok for architectural as stated, but now they need to hurry up and make it interactive.
I'll be impressed when they can make something I can stick my penis in.
How the hell does this work, though? If one person is standing on one side, it renders a totally different image than the other. How the fuck?
Assuming since you need a light source above it to work; it's mostly likely formed/etched by multipule sheets with very small mirrors/prisims and captures the light at different angles, making it look 3d with depth, depending on the angle youre looking at.
Obviously it's not an actual 3d image, theres nothing popping out of the plate, if your perspective reaches one of the edges, the image will be cut off. Higher scale models will need to be in the middle, as it's not possible to have such high objects on the edges.
Not gonna lie, first thing I thought was "I'd love holographic sheets on my bed". I was not entirely disappointed. Pretty cool :D
Very cool. I particularly liked the ground level to 3/4 elevation plate. If you're in a fixed location for some time, I think models still beat out holography for demo purposes. But, if you're going around to community meetings and other stakeholder events, being able to whip out a few of these holographic plates would be a great advantage. Probably able to have a faster turn around time from submission to customer receipt than model builders.
My mind is fucking blown.
First I thought was on the floor then all around the room and ceiling. It would appear as if I'm inside an O'Neill cylinder. Pretty cool when he placed the smaller horizontal one on top of the bigger one. You could still see the 3D effect. Very impressive & interesting.
The basic 2D concept is still the same Seno. If I'm standing in front of a picture of a laptop and person #2 is to the right of it they'll see it from their angle. Except this is 3D so more info. How the hell does this work, though? If one person is standing on one side, it renders a totally different image than the other. How the fuck?
How long until it's used for porn?
also in the world of holograms:

I actually did not know about that shit, holy crap. I'd go see a hologram concert. That's pretty trippy. I know I'm behind but damn.
this is a big step up from the shitty holograms you see in kids toys or on credit cards, but I refuse to get impressed by holography until people figure out a way to project interactive 3d images that don't require glasses
yeah I mean most holograms we see are just that weird dark background with copper/green images, which hasn't changed all that much since the 1960s/1970s, although these panes seem to be a more complex version of that, or a 2d image projected onto a scrim/vapor cloud or suspended in a glass box to give the appearance of 3d.
When I think of holograms, I think of a focused 3d image being displayed in mid-air. I think most people are going to be underwhelmed by holography until something like that comes along
edit: google Heliodisplay if you want to see a cool one. Pretty sure it uses smoke/vapor still but yeah. Not sure how much I like the idea of having a computer display you need to constantly refill with tapwater and that eventually rots the drop ceiling tiles directly above it, lol
