BG Opinion: Neighbors parking near driveway and pissing me off! (angry face)

I live near a college that has horrendous parking. I live on the corner and so I used to have 2 to 3 vehicles parked in front of my house from about 7 am til after 8 at night. To combat this I called the city attempting to get my street permit parking but that didn't work. Now me and a few of my roomates just block their vehicles in between ours at any possible chance. When these kids knock on our door and ask if we can move our vehicles we simply say we don't know who owns them and shut the door. It only takes once for them to not park in front of our house. Try doing that to your neighbor he will get the picture.

I do not recommend calling the police or vandalizing their car yet. If they are truly blocking you in then every time you go to leave knock on their door and ask them to move their car politely. After a week I'm sure they will just park elsewhere.

If it were me, I would just leave a polite note on their car asking them to allow more room between their car and your drive. Confrontation and involvement of law enforcement is really not necessary at this point.

Least you could do is talk to them about it first, like any decent human being would. They likely have preconceptions about you too, just ask em nicely, don't press them on it, it's not a confrontation unless you let it become one.
It's worth a try before all this passive-agressive bullshittery at least. Especially worth doing before, you know, calling the cops over something so trivial.

And a note? If anyone I wasn't already on good terms with left me a note, I just keep doing whatever the fuck I was doing and leave them a note to come talk to me in person.

Learn to reverse out of your driveway? As long as they're not protruding into your driveway, I don't care how close they are and how big of an SUV you have, you should be able to back out. My Envoy has 5% tint over the stock 20% tint in the back and I can still reverse out of long driveways with no problem.

I don't think hes having any difficulty actually getting the car out, I think the problem arises when he turns to see if hes about to pull out in front of traffic.

Hah. Good luck with the talking thing. I had a neighbor who would park their car across the street directly in front of my driveway every day. Talked to them over and over about it but they wouldn't move. Two winters ago there was a huge snowstorm and the snow bank was about 3 feet off the sidewalk and they still parked there. Ended up tapping their car getting out of the driveway that morning and since the hit was behind the front driver's door it was my fault according to MA. 800 dollar fix is costing me about 4200 over 7 years because of my insurance mark up from it.

So yea. Give them a couple verbal warnings and then call the police for obstructing your driveway. And keep calling the police every time they start parking there again.

My house has an incredibly narrow driveway that's shielded by a garden half-wall and plants, and opens onto a street that gets parked on 24 hours a day, often leaving only a couple inches around the mouth of the driveway. So, coming down the drive in my car, I a) can't often see the sidewalk to avoid pedestrians, and b) have an incredibly obstructed view of the street. Do you know what I do?

Drive slowly and carefully.


I don't know when the culture of 'write a note' started, but that is some passive-aggressive pussy bullshit right there. If you can't talk to someone face-to-face like a goddamn human being, you deserve all of your so-called inconveniences.

I actually used to have my old car parked in a spot that prevented them from pulling the shit they do now, but I had to sell it.

The note writing wouldn't be too bad of an idea, and for people saying its passive aggressive bullshit, let me tell you this: I worked for the Census up here last spring, walked around these houses to try to get these welfare inbred fucks to actually do their paperwork, and I had 2 homes threaten to kill me, 1 guy actually pull a shotgun on me(didnt point it at me, just picked it up and screamed at me (called the cops on his house, apparently they "know" him and he's completely unstable)), and a couple others spit at me. Was an enjoyable time, at least I didnt get stabbed or actually shot.

What pisses me off even more, is my street is basically empty for parking, they could park anywhere, even on the other side of their own house behind the second van, yet they park right by my driveway.

This is why you should have a conversation with them. If it was a neighborhood where parking was scarce and you take whatever spot you can get, then I'd say "suck it up and be careful".

Just remember, they can park wherever they damn well please, so you're asking for a favor to help you out - you can't demand anything of them. I think a chat would have a better chance of being effective than a note - a note (especially if they're inclined to be assholes to begin with) will just make them want to park there more to make you pay for being a passive-aggressive douche.

Check your local city ordinances. They are usually very specific when it comes to parking violations, while state law tends to be general. Example: State law makes no distinction when you can park your car on the street, but in my parent's city, no cars can be on city streets from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. Local ordinances are annoyingly specific.
