Cheapest (legal) way to get windows 7?

What worries me is that it mentions download for free, which is O_O, but when you look at the mail order version for a hard copy it says that it includes windows 7 proffessional 64 bit- upgrade only. Which makes me worry that the download version is the exact same shit as everything else, need to use the old product key. ><;

You can't actually download anything from the MSDNAA website. What happens is you &quot;buy&quot; the software and then it gives you a proof of sales print out. If you check the "my software" link there should be a copy of Windows 7 there with the registration code. You're then supposed to take the print out to your bookstore (or w/e they do this) and they'll give you a burned copy of the disk for $10. If you already have a copy of Windows 7, or just pirate it, you can skip going to your school bookstore and paying $10. I used an upgrade version I got for another computer and the code from the website for a free copy of Windows 7 for my new computer.

Yeah, I think they probably upgraded their capabilities to allow downloads or something maybe. <_<;

I'll look into it tomorrow on my day off, since I got classes today and won't have any time to visit the office or bookstore to get more info.

Excited though, got my computer case and hard drive in now, and despite a somewhat bashed up box, the case itself seems perfectly fine, without a scratch. <.<; fucking UPS. Now all I need is to wait til saturday to get my i7-950 preorder from microcenter, and shop for a monitor and internet cable while I'm there.

Once you "buy" the software for free you can check your registration code at the "my software" link like mentioned above. There should also be a download link for a small file that will let download the image.
Afaik the 32 and 64bit versions have a different registration code so do your brother a favor and get him the 32bit version.

Actually at Saddleback college in order to download from the website, you need to get a code from the Administrator (his info is on the site) and to get a clear on it you pretty much have to be enrolled in any CIM (Computer information management) class, the classes themselves are like 70-80 bucks or so anyway so essentially you're still paying for it

Get a copy of Windows XP Black, it's a hacked edition that puts the full version of WinXP on without all the junk (optimized). Then install Windows 7 upgrade over that.

Yeah, I found out about the CIM class thing yesterday. <.> Fucking nonexistant fine print. Thing is, I took a CIM class in 2007 and passed it, so I'm trying to find out if that is good enough to count. I'm waiting on a reply, but I'm not holding my breath. ._.;
