For the SNES games on DS deal, would I actually have to buy a flash cart or would I be able to use my current r4 to get the job done?

I have an R4 from when they first came out. The official site for them shut down in 2008, and there have been no official firmware updates since. You have to keep assembling a new version of YSmenu whenever it gets patched to keep up with compatability, and the official R4 never supported SDHC. All the R4s on the market since have been clones.
Ha at $22 being expensive. My R4 was $35, and I remember paying $100+ for GBA flash carts before the DS. I might actually go for an AceKard now with the support. I'll have to find the save converter site though, since I have so many saves for the R4...

Ok, finally got everything, I'm going to have like...two hours tonight when she's not around to try to get this shit going.
Where should I get the latest firmware from
and where should I download games from?
(I'm actually such a retard I'm looking at this card and I'm like...where the fuck does this thing even plug into the DS?)
I got the Acekard 2i, and I'll be on a Mac (with an ancient XP install on the other partition if absolutely necessary)
Firmware here : http://www.acekard.com/download.php
Roms here : http://www.romulation.net/
The Card goes into the game slot up top.
Goddamnit. I think the 4GB microSD card I got is corrupt or something. Plugged it into the card reader and into the USB port, showed up fine, showed 3.96GB space.
Then it ejected a few mins later without prompting. Now it won't show up.
So I switched to my XP partition. Showed up fine, downloaded an SD card formatter program, started formatting...and it crashed, card disappeared. Now the card reader shows up but just says "insert removable drive", it doesn't see the card. Back on OSX now, card reader shows up as "USB 2.0 SD MMC READER" in the system profiler but won't appear in Disc Utility.
Goddamnit. Should I just go buy another MicroSD card?
You can get NDS roms at www.ndsos.net (make a quick account and you are set)
or
www.emuparadise.org they have links to all the releases plus the newest ones.
Thanks guys. I don't know if this card reader is shot or what, I bought a new 4GB microSD card today and I'm having the same problem on a different computer (same card reader, different card). So frustrating, I have to give her this gift on Monday, gotta get this shit figured out.
Finally got this shit working with a card reader from the office...holy shit is it cool.
Thanks for the help everyone, now I've gotta load up with games that she might want to play.
So, random bump but didn't feel like making a new thread. Any difference between AK2 and AK2i if I'm not using a DSi? Probably gonna order from here: http://www.4coolday.com/acekard-2-ak...-lite-p-9.html As recommended earlier in the thread. Are the MicroSD's bundled there for slightly more any good? Or should I look elsewhere? And what size should I get?
As I recall there is no functionality difference between the AK2 and AK2i other than the obvious benefit either now or in the future. As far as the memory cards, from what I'm seeing at Newegg and Amazon, as long as you can save on shipping you'd shave at least $4-5 off of your bottom line by buying them elsewhere, but make sure they come with an adapter (like this http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B000VX6...etteraddons-20). I don't think quality will really come into play, but Kingston is trustworthy and they were the cheapest 4GB I could find when I got mine. With that said, I'm really happy with 4GB. I've had to swap a few games on and off when I've run out of space, but I genuinely have 30 some-odd games on my card and am just really lazy about deleting them.
So http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820134474
y/n? The 4GB with the AK2 on that site was 13. I'm getting two though, (one for me, one as a present for a friend) so 14+3 shipping is pretty good. Are either of the three adapters that I can get with the AK2 any good? (Most expensive one was like, a dollar, iirc)
Oh be careful, that one's just "SDHC", the new AK2 cards use "microSDHC" within the card and the adapter is for computer card readers. Here are the amazon and newegg searches:
- http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...roSDHC&x=0&y=0
I'd throw you a bone with the adapters that come with the AK2, but I can't even find mine since I had a card reader on my laptop. From the sales page you linked, I had version A., the little orange one, and recall it being kind of a pain in the ass to get the microSDHC card in it, but it worked totally fine.
If you wanted this by Xmas and/or just wanted to save a little more and get free 2day shipping, there's an Amazon Prime promotion going on right now (http://www.amazon.com/gp/mom/signup/welcome) that they don't check eligibility for and is meant for any sort of caretaker, not just actual moms. lol Pretty invaluable this close to Xmas as even 1-day shipping is severely reduced in price.
Oh, I didn't notice that, thanks. So would this one be better than? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820134847
Also for the adapters on that page I was probably gonna go with the second or third one, that little orange one looks kinda flimsy. But I might be wrong.
That one works, yeah, but this is frankly a better deal since it's $8 and ships free along with not having to sacrifice the extra adapter that comes along with the memory cards: http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B00200K...etteraddons-20 Whichever you like works, all that matters is that they're MicroSDHC cards.
And yeah I don't blame you about the AK2 adapters, for the difference of of up to half a dollar, I'd opt for one of the others too.
So either this reader is shot or my computer sucks or some such, but my computer isn't recognizing it. I'd go to radioshack to buy a new one but I can't find any on the site. Halp? D:
Further clarify, device manager lists the reader as an Unknown Device.
