Worth playing, maybe.
Worth partying, no. Unless changes have been found.
I find it not worth playing since partying got nerfed. All this is atm is grind all your jobs 1-20ish fast while you can. At least that's the feel I get from for it, but I doubt SE will leave partying useless unless they want to completely abandon the game.
I actually thought there is much more reason to party from 1-20 than before, which alone was fun enough to make me grind to 20 unlike before when the random SP gain made all the grouping efforts worthless.
Not that I would pay when only 1-20 is good enough and there's not much waiting beyond it.
Well I reached 1-16 in a matter of 1-2 hours solo and I've heard only stories on how SP gain is better solo than party. Not to mention I've heard people complain that SP gains now in party generally are lower on average than how SP parties were before.
I'm not trying to play devil's advocate, I'm just stating what I've heard. If there are any other findings that contradict what I've heard I would love to see them, as I only play games like these because of the partying/social aspect :/
Why in the hell would you ask such a question after already making the purchase...
Why would you ask such a question two weeks after the OP raised his own concerns? It's not relevant nor helpful in anyway at this point in time. Not to mention the thread has added value to those that haven't purchased it and are currently on the fence of purchasing regardless.
It's not really about how often do you update but how much stuff you can ram into each one of them without breaking more than you fix in the process.
It seems many companies have realized it's more efficient to have larger updates less often than medium sized updates more often.
Granted, I'd like updates every 2 months or so, but whatever does the job best I guess.
If you'd like updates every two months or so, you should be shitting yourself with glee right now. They're on a one-a-month schedule right now.
Yeah, I wish they would continue to do it like this. But it's an exception only.
Who knows at this point. I honestly think it'll be feedback-dependent until at least PS3 launch. If they keep rolling out patches and people continue to stay away, I think they'll roll em out up until PS3. They cannot afford to lose all of the PC market before the PS3 crowd has a chance to check it out.
I believe that final fantasy 14 is worth playing in the long term meaning that i believe that this game will be very epic in say 2 years from now and even sooner than that, of course (example). If you can only look at short term and have no patience for the game to expand and evolve then maybe it's not the game for you. If you believe in the long term of final fantasy 14 and you can see yourself enjoy playing a year from now and beyond then you should start to progress your character immediately.
Why not just progress your character when you're actually having fun doing so? If someone isn't interested in the game now, even if they believe in the "long-term", why subject themselves to torture now when it really doesn't mean much?
If the battle system, economy, combat system, UI, crafting system, party system, chat system, ect. all improve in between now and two years, why would someone want to play it now vs. in two years, so they can actually enjoy all of those things right off the back? If the low leveling game is 10 times more fun 2 years from now than it is now, why go through the motions at low levels now? Why not just wait until then?
I don't see the point you're trying to make other than "send SE money now if you believe the game will be cool 2 years from now so they actually have money to keep it around for those 2 years". Personally, I'd tell people to play it at whatever point they deem it to be "fun". If its "fun" now, play it. If its "fun" in 2 years, play it then, and skip it now.
a) some people might not consider $12/mo a big deal at all
b) plenty of people don't find the current game "torture," as much as haters like to embellish it as such
c) it's understandable for someone doesn't want to start from scratch months from now if they are confident that they will eventually play it anyways.
Especially since getting halfway to the current level cap on every class is now a breeze. There's plenty of things to get up to speed with (read: level crafts/subs/physical so you're not gimp) and have some fun doing so before significant content finally lands. Even if it is a number of months away.
As much as you might not subscribe to the idea, a lot of people consider getting into a MMORPGs a large commitment/investment. It's not always something people just pop in and play for a level and put back down.
Different strokes.
12 bucks a month may not be alot to some people(which is retarded in this economy), but wasting your time on a generic game that resembles a beta korean MMO on training wheels is pathetic.
Cata would be a wiser investment, and this is coming from a person who hates WoW art, playing w/out a controller, and most of the prepubescent teens that I find hard to avoid...
FFXIV may become playable next year, but the other MMOs are making this SE shit look archaic.
let me tell you, compared to progress in other MMOs, which have low/mid/end-game content at launch and onwards, ffxiv's progression is torture. the average gamer doesn't have time to spend doing an entire leve cycle. locking us into a 36h timer didn't mean anything pre-patch, but now we're locked right back into it, all playing in that little box SE want us to. it's really frustrating and sometimes i feel like if i wasn't in the position i was in, i wouldn't keep holding onto a glimmer of hope for the game.
that said, no it isn't worth playing right now. you can actually go have fun on another title. heck, download runes of magic and play for a night and you will have lotsa fun. i wouldn't wish this game on my worst enemy, really. if you're a fan of the series, then peek in here in about 3 months, and then again 3 months after that. if it's the same old story, just pretend there never was a ffxiv. a lot of people already have.
It all comes down wether you like crafting or not. FFXIV is at its core a crafting game first and foremost, with the entire battle-oriented gameplay being almost entirely optional in its current state.
Character progress isn't all about having fun, you have to grind a bunch of levels after all but i think there's much fun to be had grinding with friends or just random people. If you waited a year or so to progress your character then you will be left behind struggling to catch up with the more established players.
All of those things will already be improved with the upcoming version updates, it won't take 2 years long.If the battle system, economy, combat system, UI, crafting system, party system, chat system, ect. all improve in between now and two years, why would someone want to play it now vs. in two years, so they can actually enjoy all of those things right off the back? If the low leveling game is 10 times more fun 2 years from now than it is now, why go through the motions at low levels now? Why not just wait until then?
I believe that the heart of every mmorpg is endgame because that's where the majority of group content in these games are located at. Mmorpg titles get more and more endgame content as time goes by so if say 2 years time have passed then final fantasy 14 will have alot of endgame content for both casual and hardcore players. Also, the level cap may rise, there's more items to craft, more resources to gather, more classes, new weaponskills, new magic spells, more badass weapons and armor. Things that directly affect endgame are also important and they get better as time goes by. Everything before endgame is pure preperation for endgame, it's not supposed to be fun (although it can be at times) but i can guarantee you that it's absolutely rewarding.I don't see the point you're trying to make other than "send SE money now if you believe the game will be cool 2 years from now so they actually have money to keep it around for those 2 years". Personally, I'd tell people to play it at whatever point they deem it to be "fun". If its "fun" now, play it. If its "fun" in 2 years, play it then, and skip it now.
