As far as I know, it's safe to use. I've utilized it more than a few times to change my character's appearance without any adverse side effects.

Can u lose ur companion outside telling em to wait and never going back or forgetting about em? I know when I mountain climb I lose em but they find their way back to me in a few minutes. But any instances like this where u can outright lose em?
i couldn't get lydia to follow me out of labrythian dungeons. i'd go in and her spawn point would be a little ways off and i'd have to go down to grab her. but when i exited she'd be back in the dungeon again.
If they die (all the way), they are lost forever. Other than that, I don't think they can be lost (outside of glitching). If you tell them to fuck off, they just go home. If you tell them to stay, they stay. If you climb mountains, they just take the long (proper) route to get to you. Fast-traveling or entering a town/building/cave/etc. will always teleport them to you as far as I know.
Just look up what ingredients have what effects. Combining more than 2 does not make it more potent so if you have two you're set.
Skyrim Alchemy Helper is for finding potions that have the most effects based on an ingredient (for leveling up/making more valuable potions).
The game tells you they get bored and go home after a few days of waiting. Generally, "losing them" is more often than not accidentally killing them or telling them to wait and forgetting about it or not noticing it.
Apparently (unconfirmed), if Lydia dies, you find her body in the Whiterun Catacombs. In that case, I figure you can just console resurrect her.
I wonder why they couldn't afford to hire more than 3 voice actors to cover every damn NPC in the game. Everyone sounds like Arnold Schwarzenegger or Natasha (Bullwinkle).
Well, Skyrim is meant to be populated primarily by Nords. Racial diversity isn't going to be as pronounced in Skyrim as it was in Oblivion if only for lore's sake.
Some of them have a kind of rural hick Canadian accent. I thought it was pretty funny when I heard it.
At least, unlike Oblivion, the voice assignments aren't totally fucked - where you talk to an old beggar, "Spaaaare a coin?", and ask her a question, and Boom! She loses 40 years on her voice and answers you in literary aristocratic english.
Fucksake, I had a plan to kill the Jarl of Riften, maven blackbriar. I even stealthed up to her balcony and waited until the early morning to slay that bitch.
Apparently she's immune to death
lol
aw man, serious? when I reached max conjuration I planned on having a permanent thrall made out of one of the jarls. something about wreaking havoc on a town and turning their leader into my undead slave seemed pretty fun. disappointed you can't kill the jarl... I would assume they all have the same resistance too. damn!
You can, if you abuse console commands:
1. Enter first person view
2. Hit tilde to bring up console line
3. Click on the Jarl
4. Type setessential "baseid" 0 (baseid being the number that shows up when you click the npc)
5. ???
6. Enjoy your killable NPC.
That being said, some of these npcs are set to essential for a reason. You can very easily break your game if you remove the essential tag from the wrong NPC and end up killing them.
Outside of hax0rz, it appears you cannot actually kill any important storyline NPCs that would completely eliminate your ability to take part in some of the larger questlines... even after you have completed them. If it's someone who is, was, or eventually will be important enough, they will just keep getting up after kneeling down at critical HP. Apparently this counts for all the main generals at all the Imperial/Stormcloak camps.
edit: hence the "essential" value.
For my own question, how many Daedric artifacts are there total? I think I heard that you could only pass up on one and still get the achievement. I missed out on the ring because here I thought saving a priest's life would be a more rewarding act than letting him get eaten alive by cannibals. This game isn't very rewarding for the righteous. :|
I believe there are sixteen total, and that the achievement is for fifteen. So basically, you can choose the Black Star in lieu of Azura's Star and still get the achievement if you get every other Daedric Artifact.
There's 15.
16
edit: actually is the skeleton key considered an artifact in the achievement?
so will doing these Boethia questsstop me from joining some other group? Like, since I'm doing something evil for them will I be unable to join some faction that stands for good?Spoiler: show
Re:artifacts:Spoiler: show
Spoilered for very minor spoilers, but I guess some people care?
lolachievements but 10 seconds on google says:
*There are 16 quests from daedric lords (nothing for Jyggalag)
*Nocturnal's does not count towards the achievement
*3 of them have a choice between two rewards:
*You have to take the Mask of Clavicus Vile over the Rueful Axe
*You have to take the Savior's Hide over the Ring of Hircine (you can finagle it and get both but the ring doesn't count)
*Either Azura's Star or The Black Star is cool.
