The game even tells you the relative value of every item so you can just cherry pick the most valuable equipment and mats to sell and use (if needed). I think it's really hard to run out of money in this game as long as you don't buy every house you come across, so you can easily do that and get relatively rich anyway. Just pay a bit of attention, it's not that much of a hindrance.

psst, go give your 20 pound elder scroll to someone who likes books... think about it real hard bro.

half your list is legitimate, the other half is just you being locked into your own way of wanting to play and then realizing its dumb as fuck and blaming the game.

To be fair, I don't blame him for keeping niche gear around. I used to have a "Bow set" and a "Sneak set" and a "Lockpick set" and it just ended up ticking me off. Leveling Enchanting is the best recourse for dealing with niche overload.

There are two forms of "no rules" and someone mentioned if a bit above. The "rules" in the game are ones that MAKE SENSE, as opposed to rules like invisible walls and invincible characters. It's not a game of lawlessness.

And lol @ playing this game like it's FFXI with multiple armor sets, especially as a heavy armor character.

If you don't think any of the shit people are suggesting is "cool", then the discussion is over. The game leaves a sour taste in your mouth. Move on. There's a million other good games this holiday season.

Edit: Oh yeah, stop hoarding potions and books. Get a fucking bookshelf (or 3) for your books, and designate a chest or cabinet as your "Potion Cabinet". When you're leveling alchemy and dumping in 300 ingredients that weigh .2 pounds and getting pots each time that weigh .5 pounds, it adds up.

I mean, shit though, what game are you playing that has more "freedom" than Skyrim? I'd love to hear an example so we can break it down like you're attempting to do with Skyrim, all for the sake of mimicing your "I want to love it, but its just so much fun rebuking everything that people suggest!" routine.

Like I said, you can choose to view the list as a list of complaints, but that's not what it is.

If I was making a list of complaints it would look very different and revolve almost entirely around the lack of mob quantity in dungeons and the combat.

Did you play Fallout 3/NV? Have you ever played any Bethesda game before? They're all the same. Open-ended, very fun if you're into it, very search-oriented, very grab-oriented, and none of them have "amazing" dungeons, unless you love slow travel through repetitive areas speckled with unvaried enemies, spurrned on by the thought of more loot (which many of us do), and average combat mechanics when compared to other franchises (but still endearing if you enjoy what's presented to you). Most everyone here that loves Skyrim loved either Fallout or the Elder Scroll series. You sound completely new to both, and as a result, you sound like you're looking at the game with glasses coated with the expectations of another series or franchise.

Here's a question for you: what game do you want Skyrim to be more like? Don't worry about justifying it or anything; just pick a game title; that should tell us more than enough of what you want in a game.

    Nope, first one.

er... which part? I don't know that I want it to be more like any specific game. More than anything I just want more cool boss fights. Only fight that was really even memorable thus far was the guy right before you go into the final boss zone.

I think I found another guy like him too when I was running around after, but it appeared to be pretty much exactly the same with more hp.

I'm going extreme opposite end of the rpg spectrum next, when I send Skyrim back I get Dark Souls lol.

So play the game and enjoy it? Do you need people to list off reasons why THEY find it fun but you can't find it fun? If it's not for you, it's not for you, simple as that. I'm having a blast playing it, I started over as an assassin type character which is a nice switch from my orc beserker warrior type. I know you can basically do most everything on 1 character, but I like to lose myself in these games and make new characters for new feels.

The fact that you can run from point A to point B, and wind up looking through tons of ruins, dungeons, mines and towns with npcs who might need help and have dragons attack along the way is pretty damn fun. Sure the 20th dragon attack loses it's charm, but what wouldn't? It can only be fresh for a sort while.

Not to mention im looking forward to the mods that will be coming out as soon as we get a goddamn construction set (which I thought was supposed to be released WITH the game Bethesda....) and user made content will make the game even more enjoyable.

Mods are the reason the elder scrolls games beat all other rpgs for me.

I can totally get why someone wouldn't like Elder Scrolls games. I enjoy them but it's either your thing or it isn't. I think the game is at its best during the more unique and twisted quests like the Thieves guild and Dark Brotherhood. And for past references I thought that Oblivion's Shivering Isle addon was way more interesting than the main boring storyline quests. The daedric princes and Sheogorath were far and away the best part of the game imo. (Remember what happens if you tried to attack him?) I'm hoping there will something like Shivering Isles for Skyrim.

The best way to enjoy this game is not to take the gameplay aspect too seriously.
Forget being a perfectionist, missables and all these things that you have to deal with in most other RPGs, else you won't be enjoying it.

@ Gwyn so glad someone else mentioned Shivering Isles. I fucking loved that more than the main piece of Oblivion.

Also echoing the "you either love it or dont" sentiment. Don't force yourself to love it. I love the Dynasty Warriors series, but other people absolutely loathe it. Same deal here.

If i could sum up the main allure of Elder Scrolls in one word, it would be freedom. I stare at the screen every time i boot up the game and have to think, "ok, what do i want to do tonight?". Every play session is different.

Once you get a house most weight issues are solved. You may end up in a dungon and have to worry about what to keep and not keep.

For the most part things like dragon bones will be the killer on weight.. once you can store them you are golden. Also, if you dont have a house dont be scared to sell them. By the time you can use them youll have a lot more.

This was my concern when I first played since it was something I always aimed for. But now I'm murdering, stealing, fucking up quests, raiding caves and shit for no reason and its awesome.

Just things like having a drink with Sam in Whiterun, then finding myself all the over in Markarth with no idea what the fuck.

My favorite part about FO3 was just randomly exploring the map and finding different things or cool mini-stories. I thought they did a fantastic job of having all these sub-stories everywhere in different "dungeons", caves, trailers, etc. I'm only really just starting to get into Skyrim, so hoping they were able to re-create that in this setting.

I like how the game lets you choose to become overpowered or not. But what I don't like are things like being able to level to 100 smithing just with iron daggers. Wish there was a little bit more meaning in skilling up certain skills.

Anyone else have issues with playing a stealther and killing with daggers from behind? I have the dagger perk that's like 15x dmg or something, I get behind my targets and sneak attack them, and I see like 1/8th of their HP go away and they turn around and beat the shit out of me with a mace....

I also routinely hit guards in the face with arrows from stealth to only have them take 1/5th hp damage and then come searching for me.

I tried the dagger sneaking route and I had the same problem and just went full bow with which I now rain instant death upon everyone. I gave up on daggers because you almost always end up in a situation with someone wailing on you and there's not a whole lot you can do as blocking sucks without a shield, and doesn't exist with dual wielding... and carrying a shield and a dagger around while trying to be sneaky doesn't feel right. I would say enchanting with paralyze is the only way to make it work.

Also, it just feels so good to land an arrow between the eyes of someone from 100 yards away and have them fall off a bridge/tower/cliff, their lifeless body skidding to a dusty halt at your feet, pulling the arrow out of their face and sticking it between someone else's shoulder blades.

The 70 perk makes a huge difference in how fast you can move up to them since you don't need to walk so that helps. Otherwise I'd suggest trying forward power attacks since that seemed to work better for me. I started using both at the same time so I don't know which was the cause, but I almost never get seen before killing things when being sneaky.

And Plow, it honestly sounds like you're trying to make up nonexistent problems with the game. The weight limit is fine. There were a few occasions early on when I slowly walked to a town encumbered but once I got some points in stamina and found the steed stone I never find myself having to drop stuff. In ffxi you could only hold 30 items initially, even if they were all potions. Being caught killing someone means you get a bounty..

You seem to be expecting a game where you can do absolutely everything imaginable and not be punished for it in any way whatsoever. Having a bounty because you killed someone isn't because of a "rule" that restricts you. It's because that's how the game works. You just killed the random annoying person, and hell you can kill the guards now too. This isn't something you can do in many other rpgs. And the punishment isn't even bad. You can just go to jail or pay the fine and then everything is fine.
