My sisters fiance gave me a copy of oblivion for pc and I've never installed it and played it. I was thinking about getting into it some time soon, I was wondering if I should give the original xp system a shot or if it just really is that terrible and I should install a modded xp system right off the bat?

There's a number of things that are broken in the official release... like legitimately getting 100% Chameleon on gear is equivalent to /godmode on.

I would definitely look into mods that fix all the shit that people generally hate about the game so you don't not get into it because of them. I despise level-scaling.

The level scaling is ABSURD. If you don't start the main quest line immediately, you might as well pretend the NPCs aren't there. I've ignored the amulet of kings and gone out to do other quests (archmage, listener, grey fox) and by the time I got to Kvatch, there were xilivai and storm atronachs everywhere and the NPC guards just got beaten into the ground.

And shields are bullshit. I have never met a more dangerous opponent than any given shmuck with a shield.

They are changing the xp system, yea? Got burnt out of Oblivion after having to stand there and spam certain spells over and over again. Shit was fucking tedious.

Going to work on installing mods for the first time...does anyone know if oblivion xp (new version) is compatable with FCOM? I know the original version was, and I assume the new version (4.1.9a) is as well, but looking for some clarification since some of the major adjustments to the newer version is adjusting compatability with other mods.

you know, it should be compatible. but when I look, I have 4.1.5 installed along with FCOM, and I vaguely remember having some trouble with the most recent release of XP. but I can't say for sure since it's been a while.

so yeah, I'm no help at all, sorry lol. I can tell you that 4.1.5 works for sure. why not just try 4.1.9a and downgrade if necessary?

I got through the process last night for installing FCOM, but couldn't get the game to load. Sometimes it would load through my deskstop shortcut, but I couldn't get the game to launch from wrye bash or OBMM, although I didn't have any errors from BOSS, and load order looked ok compared to the FCOM site example.

Anyway, I think I installed OOO incorrectly, I got a windows 7 compatability error during .exe auto-install, so going to uninstall everything and restart using obom method this time, then just try to get OOO, Fran's, and MMM working before moving on.

Looks a thousand times better than Oblivion, I couldn't ever really get into the game because I felt everyone was just a pudgy blob of flesh that couldn't show any emotion when pissed off, sad, or frightened other than via dialogue.

It's compatable. Got FCOM, and XP 4.1.9a installed, as well as a bunch of other stuff now.
