Yeah... you saying that made me check... I didn't know creating a new character would delete the old one... I would not have done that if I knew...

I found out the hard way about saves since I'm a quick save fanatic.

Now I just roll separate save files for my different characters and back them up periodically in a different location.

Try to open your saves from the main menu instead of in-game. It freaked me out at first, but unless you seriously relied on autosave and quicksave the whole time without making a real save for your character, it'll still be there. That said, if you did rely on autosave, you're screwed because that's obviously overwritten.

If you want to maintain multiple characters, use a manual save and you'll be fine. Those don't disappear. The game just occasionally doesn't show saves for other characters when you're trying to load from inside a game.

So I'm about 10hrs in and honestly...this is boring as hell. Going to try and keep at it but nothing about this title is truly captivating. Not the story, characters, graphics, and especially combat.

How many of these annoying ass quests from Vex/Devlin do I have to complete to unlock the fence with 4K gold? I've already done the main thieves guild quests.

there are 4 special quests. each special quest unlocks after you complete 5 jobs in 4 specific towns. Solitude, Windhelm, Markarth and Whiterun. I'm not sure if the vex/delvin quests give you 4k fences but I know that's how you become head of the guild.

Vex and Devlin give their jobs at random. As Souj said, you need to perform 5 jobs in a city to get a 'special' job and then complete that to unlock the fence in that hold, as well as increasing the gold capacity of all fences. The annoying thing is that once you've completed a special job in a hold, Vex and Devlin can still give you jobs for that hold. Best bet is to pair up sweep and bedlam jobs in the same town. You can decline a job after it's issued by talking to either Vex or Devlin. Keep asking until you get a pair. Otherwise, just keep doing them and you'll get the special missions eventually.

I seem to have a little bit or trouble fighting once enemies group up. I don't have much problem with 2 enemies, but 3-4 seems almost impossible. I usually end up kiting them. I have heavy armor, and I was using a shield (I decided to use a 2 hander today and it worked ok). I didn't get every far in Marrowind, so maybe I am having trouble with the combat system. Should I just quick hit and move a lot?

There is a perk for two handed that makes power attacks hit all enemies that are in front of you.

I think I just realized why I don't have the save for my main character... I think I must have saved over it... lame. Kind of kills my want to play this game. I wanted to keep that char for dlc and I didn't feel like doing all those quests all over again on my new character. bleh. What really sucks is I had 3 hard saves for that character. I deleted the other 2 after I beat the game since my ps3 is always low on space.

I intended to make my first character a thief/assassin type, got it to around level 12 and decided to plan ahead and just go through the character creation to make a few more characters with set jobs/playstyles in mind. After I finished creating my second character, my first was gone. I was sad.

But now I've recreated my first character and it's level 36 or something, haven't even told the Jarl in Whiterun about the dragons. I wanted this one to ignore the main quest as much as possible and just ignore his Dragonborn destiny, and it's been pretty fun. Hated Oblivion and the Fallout games, for what it's worth, but I'm having a lot of fun with Skyrim.

I'm trying to mess with addons and mods and such to make the game closer to what I'd like, having trouble finding the right combination since some of what I want is via a script and some goes right through the nexus mod manager, bleh.

I'm looking at this auto-perk-leveling mod, basically takes out "level" and you get health/stam/magicka progression through skilling things up, and your run speed/jumping height is effected by related skills and how much you're carrying on you. But I also want these mods that give a plethora of extra weapons (specifically dragon weaponry slightly better than daedric) and extra spells, since there seems to be such a lack of spells, though that is partially because I don't play a magic-heavy character.

If I could get this to work and my game to not lag so much, since moving to a dual monitor system seems to have slowed my game a fair bit, I could go back and get into it again.

Even for a magic-focused character, it really feels like there's very few spells in the game. Destruction is all the same sentence in a different font; master spells are in wingdings. Restoration is heal and turn undead (and who the fuck turns undead). Illusion is muffle, invisible, and bullshit. Conjuration is pretty useful, and alteration is pretty varied. I especially love telekinesis; the asshole quotient is off the chart.

I don't know, there's probably roughly the same number of effects as in Oblivion, but the lack of spell creation really hurts the spell system, I think.

Bland spell system? I got good news and bad news! Good news is there a beta Midas Magic mod out. Bad news is its pretty much beta until Creation Kit is released. Consoles are forevervanilla.

Is the Ebony Armor "Matched Set" glitch still in effect? I know I can cap armor rating with as little as Steel Armor but the Ebony was the look I was going for for my character.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but the Categorized Favourites Menu mod has added a great new feature: hotkeyed gear sets! The feature is still experimental (works for me) and requires you to edit a .cfg file with notepad, but it's a great feature to have. As a stealth/archer character I love being able to one-key equip all my +Archery gear, and then if I have to close up with an enemy just hit another hotkey to switch over to my dual-dagger/melee setup. Works for any equipment you have, including enchanted gear you have renamed, as well as magic. The 'coding' is very easy and will be familiar to anyone who remembers making up FFXI equipment/spell/action macro .txt files.
