Peace out Collectors edition Smeagol figure from Lord of the Rings: Two Towers
This game is coming out soon and unlike Oblivion I've been purposely avoiding threads/spoilers like the plague. Sorry for what may be a novice question but how are fans of Morrowind/Oblivion perceiving Skyrim thus far? Are people picturing it as Oblivion version 2.0, a huge step forward from Oblivion, or somewhere in between? Deciding whether or not it's fully worthy of a day 1 buy.
Friend that downloaded it early is implying it is much better than Oblivion, and is just a great game in general. Generally he's a good judge of these things, I personally can't wait until the 11th.
Me too. I watched the trailer and saw the pics from this thread but that's it. When I played Oblivion it was so confusing to me and took so long I said screw it. I just used guides for everything. I still enjoyed it a lot, but this time around I want to play Skyrim as a blank slate.
So for you jerks playing it early, how does the skill point system work? For example, on the Archery page @ UESP.net, I see there are perks all the way up to 100. What "level" is required to get Archery up to 100? How many different skills can you get to 100 before maxing your character out?
edit: I was able to find this page that says you get 1 perk per level, 70 in all. So is that to say your proficiency with a weapon (how much you use it) is what determines what perks you are able to spend points on?
I basically just wanted to make sure I would be able to get some other cool stuff after I maxed out archery. Given that it looks like Archery has 16 available perks (counting individual ranks), there should be more than enough points to go around.
Just read up on the smithing skill. Sounds pretty cool how they revamped all of the skills to go from individual aspects to grouped aspects with individual specializations.
Skyrim will be fun. If it isn't, then at least I have a fucking Dragon statue from it.
$150 dragon statue.
My information regarding the skill-up system is partly from having played, and partly from reading wiki sites (Todd Howard explaining how it will work):
-All skill-ups will have the same impact on your level progress (and I believe there's a level cap of 50, and a "soft cap" of 70)
-Every level grants you one perk (maybe that changes at higher levels? I'm at level 26 right now and it's been the same) which you can put anywhere.
-The perk, however, requires a certain level in whatever field. I.e., to craft/improve Dwarven armor, you need something like 40 in smithing.
-Every level, you choose 1 of 3 stats to increase: Magicka, Health, Stamina. These stats are boiled down from Oblivion's 8 or 9 stats, i.e. stamina governs your carry cap among other things.
I like the perk system a lot, although I'm worried that I'm leveling way too fast. In Oblivion, that wasn't necessarily a good thing--I'm curious if that's a "bad thing" in this game. I hope that answers the skill-up questions mentioned above.
Couple more days...
My body is not ready.
