I am enjoying this game a lot more than the little bit Oblivion I had attempted to like. Sneak attacking seems a bit overpowered still, as I am taking out entire populations with arrows to the back from a mile away.

My highlight so far was opening a door to a mess hall and immediately putting an arrow right through some bandit's forehead while he was still eating, then looting his dead body that was bent backwards over the bench and retrieving my arrow from his face.

How are you liking it? I was doing archery/sneak last night for a little bit (only got about an hour of gametime in) and was finding it difficult to keep people off of me. I didn't have any archery perks though. Is it slow to start out?



You are a gentleman and a scholar. I was hoping there was something like this in the game.

yeah it's kinda slow at start, but once you get the perks, you pretty much 1 shot everything except mammoth and giants. And I soloed 5 mammoth + 2 giants and get 2 levels+5 archery, lawl.

It's Oblivion without the stupid Oblivion gates and a coat of fresh paint on it (still looks dated) with a couple features from FO3 and people are making it out to be the best game ever. Seen one, seen em all. Thank goodness for torrents is all I'm gonna say.

I'm with you. So glad I gave this the torrent trial, definitely not worth a penny. Spent the first few hours fighting against the controls, and once that subsided... there's just nothing there.

It's not really fair to be honest, this combat didn't have a chance so soon after Dark Souls.

So with lockpicking, you press A to turn the lock but is there a way to turn the lock more slowly. Like in fallout (I played on xbox) I could just slowly angle the stick and it would turn slowly but with the keyboard it's kinda all or nothing aside from tapping A.

Not really, I've been lightly tapping the lock but i'll fuck up sometimes and hit it too hard, breaking the lockpick. seems there's a very small level of tolerance you can save your pick but you pass that point and it'll snap.

So I found a vendor that sells a bunch of higher level spells, Chain Lightning, Fireball/Firebolt, etc, for like 1200 gold. Worth buying or should I wait to find it in the world?

Just as a tip, for those going towards smithing, I don't know when the tiers apply, but there are tiers to weapon/armor improvement. You can stack items/potions that also improve smithing (i.e. Fortify Smithing potion, which can be made with Blisterwort and Glowing Mushroom):

Higher tiers go to Flawless, then Epic, and I just discovered there's a "Legendary." With some other buffs, my one handed 'Blades Sword' is at the legendary scale and packs 75 damage (with one-handed buffs/improvements...but still)

Oh, and how the hell do I capture things into soul gems?

Thieves Guild is in Riften, which is in the far SE corner of the world.

In the little courtyard in the center of town where there are some cart vendors, one of them will offer you a quest (he'll make a comment about how you haven't worked a hard day in your life), once you finish that quest he'll direct you to the Thiev's HQ and you'll be rolling from there.

And afaik it's always 1 perk per level, I'm @ level 26 so far and nothing has changed.

Thieves Guild is in Riften (south east of the map)

You have to cast/affect your opponent with "Soul Trap" and have a valid gem. I.e., cast soul trap (usually says you have 10 seconds to kill an enemy if you cast the spell), kill animal (i.e. a goat, a frost troll, or a dragon) and then you can get the soul.

Some additional info:
1) Gems always fill their lowest soul possible. If you only have a Grand Soul Gem in your inventory, and you soul trap a goat, you'll have effectively wasted it because it's going to be stuck with a "Petty" Soul.
2) Soul rank are: Petty, Lesser, Common, Greater, Grand (correct me if I'm wrong please).
3) You can also enchant an item with soul trap, which I find more useful for my character's warrior style. I have a dagger that affects the target with "Soul Trap" if it dies within 6 seconds, works just like the spell.
4) There's an item called "Azura's Star" that makes its reappearance in the game -- it works as a "rechargeable soul gem" (aka super effective)
5) No idea what a "Black Soul Gem" does.
6) Opponents CAN (and in the case of Dragons, often DO) resist soul trap. I'm thinking it has to do with your Conjuration skill, and being that mine is low, I have yet to land a soul trap on a Dragon. Then again, that might be by design, because your character absorbs Dragon souls as is upon killing them.

So, I've been stealing my ass off every and any time I get the chance. Never been spotted or anything, and I have never killed anyone. At one point, I came out of some mines and there were these 3 hired goons there; they attacked me for stealing. I've never had a bounty on my head at any time, and what is even better is that the hit was taken out by a little girl in Riverwood (Dorthe(lol)). Will this have some repercussion does anyone know? I'm going to continue to steal regardless.

Furthermore, should I go and shank her for snitching? I must satisfy my bloodlust.
