Just imagine walking in to that, getting all tangled up with 100s of spiders on you, crawling over your skin, biting you relentlessly. You try to squirm away, but you cant, your legs arent moving, youve been paralyzed from fear and venom, you have no choice but to lay there, fully conscious of your demise, as your flesh begins to melt away.

Those are all just orb weaver spiders. Innately slow, non-aggressive, with fangs and venom too weak to harm humans. They're vicious looking things, but alone about as dangerous as a kleenex. Still, every year SoCal reports dozens of cardiac arrests from old people walking face-first into the webs and freaking the fuck out. Those of us leaving friends' houses or walking near tall bushes and low-hanging trees at night have become accomplished practitioners of the "spider walk" technique, where we blindly wave our hand in front of our face as we inch through the darkness from our doorstep to our car, hoping not to meet with such unpleasantness as spider face.

So, yes, they are harmless, but I think all of us would probably be tempted to flamethrower those trucks. Facts may render our fears of moot point, but that's what makes this a phobia - the fear is irrational.

Youre with your friends on a fall evening, youve had a little bit to drink, and not paying attention to your surroundings. You get a bit ahead of your buddies and turn around to talk to them as you walk backwards. You hit a protruding rock and you stumble back in to a bush, and roll off to the side in to a gigantic spider web, home to hundreds of spiders. You fall to the ground and land on your face, squishing one in the process. You try crawling out of your predicament, but you just run in to more webs, youve stumbled in to a forest of nothing but spiders. Anything you try to do is thwarted by the agonizing pain you feel around your body as youre being bit over and over and over. Your leg becomes trapped, and theres nothing you can do but lay there as the spiders feast off of your body.

Strange, but those spider images don't bother me as much as a story a friend told me about Texas... apparently tarantulas the size of your fist crawl up the bathtub drains and you find them just sitting in your shower. Can anyone else confirm/deny this? Idk why, but the idea of being caught unawares by a freaking tarantula while naked & climbing into the shower freaks me the fuck out, way more than images.

Also, that dude has a pretty cute vagina. You know... for a dude.

I live in south Texas and yeah, there are very large tarantulas that live by my house. However, I've never seen one in doors or crawl up my drain. It is possible though sense we have a simi-open drainage pipe in the back yard..
