Are they worth it? I'm looking into getting a good machine and looking at my possiblities.

In short, No.
I believe for their netbook it might be worth it if you're pushing for something tiny, I believe there's no other competitor in that class range unlike the 15inch or more laptops to my knowledge, whereas the larger ones you'll get much better deals with other companies such as Asus.
You're paying considerably more for just the name and the sleek/stealthier look. Not bad really if money isn't an issue.
No.
nope
What are some of the better boutiques to go through for a prebuilt computer?
Falcon Northwest.![]()
Their 11inch isn't bad, outside of that, ASUS
Yep I fully support/approve of Asus (not sure of the American only brands)
MSI also does good deals too from what I see, and even cheaper in the US, but they usually have slightly shitter screens (i.e. their high end 17 inch laptop uses a 1650x1050 screen)
if you've got a disposable income and need/want i high tech gaming experience then i say go for it. they are so fast that gaming is a joy on them. however there are other cheaper desktops/laptops that boast that capability without the name and price tag.
but if you have the spare change. do it
Here is a very detailed review of the 11x
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/review...roduction.html
This is the rerelease of the 11x with the i5/i7 CPU. Enjoy!
In my opinion if you're really lacking for space (and/or need portability) it's quite good, and looks good to boot.
It's been out for a while which made me wonder if I should hold off a bit longer or not.
Well with technology there's never a best time, if you choose to wait you'll always wait forever, I rather you not think too much about it. Besides, I'm not aware of the next line of CPUs above the i5/i7 at the moment, so we'll never know.
Above post is 100% correct.
build it yourself, you can be sure you'll get the exact parts you want in it, and you'll have the knowledge to upgrade/repair later on.
edit: on original topic of alienware, I owned one previously, was disappointed with some of the parts used compared to the price. Another downside is the size of the case and the ridiculous flashing lights. Not an issue for everyone, but I like my PC to fit in a reasonable space, and I want to be able to sleep with it left turned on without feeling like I have a nightlight.
So should I wait on getting my m11x or am I safe to make a purchase?
or am i better off with something like a xps14
Off-topic, but Intel fucking sucks. One pin less and they require a entirely new socket..
On-topic - Alienware was garbage before it was owned by Dell, and it's gotten worse since. Just build your own machine and put the $1500 extra you'd pay for marked-up lackluster parts into real performance.
