I think trying to claim your opinion is "correct" because people have quit the game is retarded. Plenty of people quit pre-abyssea, should we count all those in the "taruking is wrong" category?

It does nothing to bring back those who left the game before abyssea (the more expansions they add, the less likely ppl are going to re-subscribe) and gives the players who are at the verge of quitting the final push to leave FFXI. Keeping ppl in this game as long as possible is going to bring in more revenue than forcing them to buy new expansion every 3 months.

They have with every cap raise added camps to level to the new cap outside abyssea with the mob placement changes - so the promys, the miserable coast vultures, the higher level birds just past the einherjar entrance, the higher tier crabs and pugils in mount z... the camps may be shit and it might be a slooow grindfest but they DID add the exp camps as an alternative to give SE their dues.

You guys aren't making a lot of business sense. You do not honestly expect ppl to keep paying monthly subscription fees so that they can solo all the way to level 99 (you will be lucky to find exp parties outside abyssea). There are newer and better mmorpgs out there which are going to last longer than a dying 7+ yrs old game.

I actually disbanded the vnmls before I ffxi. The event has been overshadowed by abyss and people simply lost interest in vnm. I felt bad for members who still need
stuff from vnm but I can't keep the ls going without a decent number of members.

Like I said before, ppl who defend abyss are those who see past it's major flaws. Not everyone is as forgiving. 80k+ players have left the game since the introduction of first abyss expansion. I doubt ffxi has ever lost so many subscribers over such a short period of time. That's a huge loss of profit over 5 months which can never be compensated by sale of abyss.

    a. vnm are hard srsly

    b. only losing 80k from your first mmo when you launch your 2nd as an "improved" (rofl) version of the first is pretty damn good... pretty bad for your new one though lol

Hey Taruking, respond to this please? Sorry, you're spouting bullshit...80k players have left the game since the first abyssea expansion? Did you pull that # out of your ass? At this point that's probably some 25-30% of the active subscriptions (oh, and is more likely due to the terrible FFIV, not Abyssea). I'd like to see an actual link supporting this if you even want to use it as a part of your argument. Then there's also people like me that came back to the game and now play because at least Abyssea was something new.

Does Abyssea have flaws? Sure. Is it silly to charge $10 for a mini-expansion? Maybe. The first 3 were dumb, because they had no content and it was a waste of time...Abyssea is well worth it...I was skeptical on the first one, but at this point I didn't even think twice, and from my point of view, I bought the "Abyssea" expansion pack for $30. It was merely implemented over 3 content patches (which is still faster than WotG by a good 2+ years). As was already stated, if you tried to level without ToAU, you were fucked. Now, if you try to level without Abyssea, you're fucked, but hey, you can do it.

Also, every other MMO out there sucks (more than FFXI) except WoW, so meh. Play WoW or FFXI IMO, if you hate em both, sit on your ass and drool over D3 screenshots, maybe a non-MMO is more suited for you.

    A. I didn't say vnm was hard. Just try to point out noone in his right mind is going to keep paying subscription fees if vnm is the only thing worth doing (as the matter of fact, it's not) without abyss expansion

    B. 40k players left the game before release of 1st expansion ie prior to release of ffxiv (assuming the number reported in this thread is valid) that should give you a rough idea how many ppl are actually put off by abyss. Another way to look at it - if all the good content of abyss was added to pre-existing zones free of charge and upgrade of aft and empyrean weapon actually involve old events, how many players are going to stick around longer?

So 40k people left before Abyssea, and you blame Abyssea for that? I know for a fact a lot of people quit while playing FF14 beta, or in anticipation of 14 they felt 11 was no longer worth devoting time to. Furthermore, I'll go ahead and say I'm one that would have quit in a heartbeat if they added Emps/etc to old events. In fact, I did quit in May, with plans to come back with the level increase/Abyssea. I have no idea how you can sit here and argue it's healthy for the game to make people do the same shit they've been doing for 4+ years even more. New content is healthy, and you are delusional.

Scroll up a few more pages there is a link. My number could be slightly off because I am posting from mobile phone and can't be bothered to check the link for the exact number. I have already said it in my previous post - expansions are merely update with a price tag. It's ok to do it when you have a popular mmorpg ppl wants to play (ffxi was still relatively popular when cop and tau ce out), not at the time when its dying and you are about to release another mmorpg. They should have added those new content free of charge and make vertical expansion based on old progress (off all ppl you should have known better).

You guys seriously have issue with finding the right way to sell your product. Ffxiv is obviously the biggest reason why ppl left the game. Abyssea despite all the hype is not doing what it's designed to do - ie to keep ppl playing ffxi as long as possible. There will be players who keep their subscription and probably log in from time to time even if they are not actively playing ffxi. Forcing ppl to pay for expansion in order to further progress is going to force this group of players to quit. Let me repeat this one more time - there are a lot of good things about abyss, but se don't have to build a reskinned zone and start charging for the service. They could have added Atma and other stat bonus to old events and boost drop rate with nm weakness system. With level cap raise the old content will be just as easy as abyss. It's not going to be the same dynamis/salvage etc. (read my previous posts) and it won't be any worse than abyss after everyone is finally sick of it.

-89,752 active charcters on the AH since the 20th of june. Before abyssea there were therefore 308628 and today you can check on ffxiah/database we have 222253. That's about -30% active characters. No reason for the global population to be any different. All abyssea will have managed to do post heroes will be to halve FFXI population failing at its goal unless it was SE plan to move XI players to XIV. In any case those that quit wether they moved to XIV or not did not come back, that's what the stats say.

I think a lot of people quit just because they announced the cap was being raised before even giving abyssea a chance. Seems like lately a lot of people have been coming back to the game hearing about how much abyssea has changed FFXI for the better.

This still says nothing about causality. Yes, people quit the game. I know a ton of people that quit around then because they didn't want to level their jobs again, didn't want to see their gear outdated. That's great. No better way to actually kill a game than to let everyone sit with capped gear and nothing to do. Furthermore, people quit due to XIV...again, says nothing about Abyssea. There's a lot of people I know that have come back due to Abyssea.

Also, afaik, using those #s, FFXI has lost some ~200k people between Dec 2008 and June 2010, aka not that far off the same rate, and not having to deal with XIV or the idiots quitting because they are scared of change (or their precious salvage gear not being the best anymore).

You know, at first when they said the cap would be raised, I was one of the people that was like "well fuck, all my work is shit and now its like starting all over again" and was going to quit. But then I gave it a chance and looking back, im glad for these updates/new areas. I was so bored that the only things I had left to do really for something new was level a new job and go through the same boring events to get gear for it.

But now with abyssea, it lets me replay the jobs I enjoyed to level in the first place but felt I was maxed out on. To top it off, im able to go about getting new gear, etc for my jobs in a very enjoyable playing environment. I know people say "thats all there is now is abyssea" but there is SO much to do in there that it doesnt bother me. If we get tired of seal farming, we go exp a job, if we get tired of that, we go and farm for feet, get tired of that, we build pop set for higher Tier nms, etc.

Are people really complaining about $10 every 3 months for a shitton of content (They do still do other updates besides abyssea btw, WotG, lolsynergy, Magians, etc)? Way I have always looked at is that if I wasn't busy playing ffxi/abyssea, Id go out to the movies more often, or buy another game or something. Movies are an easy 30-40 bucks a night if you buy food and go with someone. That will last you 3 hours. A game is $60 now? That will last you 2 days to a month depending on the game. $10 every 3 months sounds pretty cheap to me, and stupid reason to cry all over the forums. Go work at McDonalds for 1 day and you'll be able to pay for the next 5 mini expansions. Christ.
