How you can call King Camping fun baffles me. Most of that time was spent AFK anyway.

Talking shit at king camps and getting people riled up is 35% of the real fun of FFXI. The other 45% is lauding gear you have that others don't over their heads. The last bit is doing something other than staring at your moogle, I guess.
Hope you guys have fun in Kazoku FFXI.
So... 20% of the fun of FFXI is playing FFXI? I seem to have found why I could never enjoy HNMs, having fun with 60% of FFXI only left room for 40% other, and that's not enough to fit lauding gear over other people into.
It's easy to accept Abyssea as great success if you see past its major flaws. SE only make old gear obsolete and abyssea the only way to progress past lv75 to get us pay for abyssea expansions – a very unprofitable action fuelled by greed to raise instant cash. It does nothing to bring back those who left the game before abyssea (the more expansions they add, the less likely ppl are going to re-subscribe) and gives the players who are at the verge of quitting the final push to leave FFXI. Keeping ppl in this game as long as possible is going to bring in more revenue than forcing them to buy new expansion every 3 months.
Add atma/abyssite system to all FFXI zones, put items required for AF3/empyrean weapons upgrade in the lootpool of dynamis/salvage/NI/einherjar/limbus and boost the drop rate via !! weakness system. Let players trade in AF2/attestation/relic base weapons etc for special “dynamis credits” which can be used to purchase new gear or lower magian trial requirements (e.g. reduce the number of killshot in relic weapon upgrade). Events that cater to all level of needs are going to keep players busy longer.
Except it's not the only way to progress past 75 which makes you completely and utterly wrong. People got to lv 80 before the whole exping in an alliance thing was figured out.
And everything you're saying just sounds like you're desperate to get items from an expansion without even doing said expansion which stinks of entitlement.
When salvage came out did you start crying for salvage 35 to drop in dynamis?
And the fewer they add, the less likely one is to continue subscribing for lack of content.the more expansions they add, the less likely ppl are going to re-subscribe
Old content is old and tired. FFXI needed something new if it was going to survive, not just new reasons to do the same old shit.
What? Im all for conspiracy theories with regards to Square-Enix but this just makes no sense.
If you argued that ACP/MKE/ASA were "fueled by greed" then Id agree with you but how exactly is Abyssea in that category? Basically the "expansions" cut to the chase and bypass the things (storyline) that most people cry and bitch about not caring to do. I like storyline but most people could care less, therefore SE axed it.
You cant level past 75 without Abyssea? How is this different from ANY OTHER expansion pack? When Zilart dropped, people only EXP'd in Zilart. CoP? Uleguerand/Lufaise. TOAU? Colibri fever. You could level past 75 without Abyssea (Moblin Maze Mongers sup?) but like any other expansion it pushes the majority to embrace the new content - something we collectively bitched that WOTG did not do.
If you're gonna quit XI, you damn well did before Abyssea. Why? The game fucking sucked and BG was reduced to Colibri math. Whatever SE was doing (cutting resources from XI for XIV) was directly harmful to the life of this MMO and thus Abyssea has started to turn around those harmful effects. People are coming back because things are FUN. And by fun I don't mean getting off on claiming some NM for the XXth time in a row.
"Oh no my Ebody is no longer something to epeen about Q.Q"
"Kings were fun, you could talk shit and AFK while the 3k bot did the work."
"I miss when we RAN this server"
SE can do alot with the oldworld to make it more enticing but calling Abyssea a cash grab when it arguably is the biggest thing to affect XI is baffling.
That's only true if exping is the only thing you ever do in this game. How are you going to spend your time after you have hit renewed level cap every 3 months without abyssea expansion?
You don't need new expansion to breath new life into this game. Read my post again, I already list a few things SE COULD have done to keep ppl leaving this game. It's basically include everything abyssea offer minus the stupid time restriction and continue to provide sustainable currency/alexandrite supplies.
It actually amazes me ppl rather pay for something which could have been (and should have been) added for free.
what time restriction
So it's completely impossible for you to still do the old content?
And you really are self entitled. SE already gives us plenty of stuff to do without buying abyssea( eg magian trials) and if you choose to ignore that then it's your fault and no SEs at this point.
The only thing I've heard that's more ridiculous is " Seals are too hard/annoying to get, Se needs to just put them all in gold chests."
I wasn't criticising the actual content of abyssea. We all basically agree there are many excellent concepts in those new expansion. Everything has been added to abyssea COULD have been added to pre-abyssea zones/events (including the concept of alliance exp). It's a bad idea to force ppl to pay for new content when FFXI is already a dying game and there are so many competitive MMORPS out in the market.
TIme restriction - scroll back and read the last few pages
Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing rewards from a lot of old content magianized. (That's a word.)
Look at something like MOST AF2, or AF+1 from limbus. That shit was never, ever relevant. THF AF2 body? BLM feet? etc.
Adding upgrades to these could make that content worth doing again. Of course there's the argument "But those are so old and everyone has done them already!", and that's true,
but what would you prefer? Older content that's been left as-is and becomes a black hole that nobody touches, or a familiar system that still yields relevant rewards?
I don't really get where people get this 'restriction' idea from. The 'time restriction' of Abyssea is virtually non-existent. I last time I actually found myself unable to enter Abyssea was the second week of the first add-on, before anyone really had a grasp on how it worked.
Abyssea is an expansion pack.
Expansion packs expand the world and add content.
This has been done 4 times before Abyssea.
If Abyssea cost 30 for EACH part, you'd have a valid argument.
Why the hell would SE want to add more pop NMs to the world already? People were leaving the game because without the Abyssean TE system, SE would have had to slap on some stupid time lockout to prevent people from hammering the content to death. (See: ZNM, VNM, ANNM)
Are you seriously suggesting that I should solo all the way to lv99 (seeing no1 else is going to party with me in pre-abyssea zones) and spend the rest of the day doing every single magian weapon trial until the day SE shut down all FFXI servers? Hell even some of the magian trials involve Abyssea expansion.
I have better way to spend my cash and time, I believe the 40k+ players who exit FFXI in Septerm will have agreed with me.
If you think about it, expansions are merely updates that come with a price tag. Game companies can get away with it when a game is thriving. Ask yourself a simple question - are ppl more likely to keep playing this game if abyssea zones have been added free of charge? Is it more likely to bring in more revenue in long run?Abyssea is an expansion pack.

So you own a VNMLS and cant think of a SINGLE event that you can do for fun?
