As did I, but it's remarkably down to earth and totally relatable. In a nutshell, it's an extremely well done cop show.

It's so much more then a cop show though after season 1 as it explores the collapse of industry/jobs in s2, city politics in s3, inner city schools in s4, and the newspapers in s5. And even season 1 is so much more then a cop show. David Simon himself admits that he doesn't think HBO would have ever even made the pilot if they knew what he was gonna explore with the show.

And Blarg it certainly fits the category of a serious adult show and keep in mind the creator made it with the intention NOT to have to spoon feed information to the audience. What Byrd said certainly is true of the series as a whole, because with the exception of some of the more outlandish characters its about real people in relatively real situations (to the point that some of the people are real baltimore cops/former drug dealers playing themselves). Anyways, don't be put off by the first ~3 episodes, it takes some people a bit to get whats going on in the street and in the police department, after that though its pretty much god tier all the way.

It's also an incredibly funny show, to the point where it has some of the funniest dialogue I've seen for a drama.

Anyone seen the entirety of The Tudors? I've heard good things about the show and I've seen and enjoyed the first half of the first season. Does it maintain throughout?

There's no pilot afaik? Or rather the pilot IS the first episode. The first episode (where you should start) starts with this scene

Some more awesome scenes from the wire that should interest you in watching it if you're unsure.

Potential minor spoilers in the last one, but worth watching because Omar is arguably one of the best characters on the show season to season.

edit: one more awesome one with Method Man

Ok, whatever http://www.icefilms.info/ip.php?v=96894& is was listed as season 0 so I figured it was a pilot. My internet is very slow atm so I only saw a minute into it but it seems like it's a documentary of the real people some of the characters in the wire are based on.

I guess it's called the avon barksdale story, a documentary, so if you haven't seen it there is a link and it looks to be on youtube too.

That's how I was with Dexter and it delivered. I just wish Netflix had The Wire on watch instantly.

Oh I've seen that shit on youtubez. Outside of him being the inspiration for Avon, I dont think its related to the actual show, just a nigga trying to cash in on his 15min. From what I remember of that video it has some spoilers for the show, so just watch it afterwards if you want.

Moss, having shit streaming on Netflix, undermines their HBO On Demand business model, and iirc they are developing their own online streaming service as well, so would probably need to wait a few more years for Netflix to start taking their streaming seriously (2010 Q4 was the first time they made more money from streaming then from dvds) and start paying the big $$ to networks besides NBC to get shows.

Interesting. Still it was nice being able to tear through the first two seasons of Dexter without waiting for the DVDs to ship.

Werd. It's the best cop drama on TV. Season 3 premier was last night.

    I have to agree with Dexter. I was really into it for the first season then for some reason stopped watching. I caught a random episode the other night and it pulled me back in. Arrested Development which I saw was suggested should also make your list of things to watch as well. After thinking about it I want to get back into it myself. I wish they would make another season. ; ;

Few quick comedy fixes that havent been mentioned:

    The Job (2001)
2 seasons, 19 episode run from Denis Leary and Peter Tolan. If you in to Leary's comedy and Rescue Me, its worth to check this one out.

    Lucky Louie (2006)
13 episodes from Louis C.K. Not as good as Louie but offers some funny moments, IF you can get over that it was taped before a live audience.

Anyone mention Resuce Me yet? That's an awesome show.

I'm pretty sure people have brought up Pushing Daisies?

Friday Night Lights is also an awesome drama with great acting.

Any recommendations for what's new or starting back up this season? I feel like I'm in a loop of permanently missing everything relevant and entertaining until a season after it's aired. Thus far all I'm planning on is the Spartacus prequel and season 2 of Archer. Bob's Burgers if it's any good, only just heard about it.

Damages. Season 1 instant hook in the first episode.

Just started Dead Like Me, it's kinda funny.
