Seriously though if you want a Mac just get a Macbook, the new ones are powerful enough to run your graphics software and you can hook them up to an external monitor and use a USB kb/mouse to make it into a ghetto docking station. Will probably run you $1400 all said and done, and macbooks retain their value well so you can resell it on ebay or wherever once you're done with school.

Both the iMac and Macbook Pro are expandable to 8GB and they're all priced the same at comparable specs. 21.5" iMac and 13" macbook pro are both $1199 and like I said the macbook will retain its value better

You'll need a mini-DVI to DVI (or VGA) adapter for like $20-$30, and then...a monitor. You can definitely find a good-sized monitor you like for under $200 for 21.5" or $300 for 27" depending on if you wanna match the size of the iMac you get.

I'll save up for a few more weeks and see what I want to do I guess. I could get a refurb 21.5 (honestly don't need that 27) and 3 years of apple care for the price of a new 21.5.

That that should be all I honestly need for light gaming and photoshooping. Really would like to be more portable, especially moving off/on campus every 9 months, and to take to class, but I guess I can reformat my current laptop to w7 and just always find a plug. 19" laptops are a hassle.

I bought a netbook for the portability. Definitely overrated. Fucking hate the small screen, even if the keyboard doesn't bother me all that much.

Edit: It's great for playing Diablo II though lol.

After some thought, the new Macbook Pros are going to be rolling out in January/February or so, so I think I might wait to get one of those and a nice monitor. Sure my desk will be somewhat cluttered, but it would be nice to have a laptop I can take to class for notes.

I don't see how an iMac (essentially an oversized monitor + mouse + keyboard) takes up less space than... a monitor mouse and keyboard. You can put the laptop on a side table when docking it (or use it as a second monitor)

That's because they're updating the macbook pros early next year, which is why its on sale, to clear them out.
