I think everyone is misunderstanding. My insurance company isn't obligated to rent me a car, I understand that and I have no problem with that. However, her (or her insurance company) is. Since she was at fault and liable (I'm going to assume, unless there's some really shady police work going down), I assumed (although I wasn't certain) my insurance company would front the rental and sue her or her insurance company for the cost. When I called progressive, they weren't certain, it was a question I'd have to ask the adjuster. Quite honestly, I would think the insurance I hold is largely irrelevant when I have no liability in the accident. This is why I'm pissed about a lack of adjuster/police report. If I had her insurance information already, I'd be riding around in a rental.

It depends on your state "fault" laws.

Right now, it sounds like you need to rent a car out of pocket and then sue for repayments from the other driver/her insurance.

I just got my Progressive insurance renewal notification yesterday, and my monthly premium went up by $11, for no reason at all. I have never even received a parking ticket, and they list my record as "clean".

    wtf.

(also, Progressive includes a 30-day car rental for my insurance, one would assume that it applies to the policy holder and not necessarily the other way around, but who knows)

I dropped Progressive a few months ago for the same shit. Was with them for over 6 years and they knocked me up $65 for no reason at all.

To be fair insurance premiums do go up for reasons unrelated to your history, things like insurance fraud are still a huge issue and naturally the companies pass that burden onto you

My health insurance company did almost exactly that about half a year ago, but they did send me a letter explaining that they were going to do it. I would think that would be mandatory...

Got a call back from the officer this evening. The police said today that they've yet to contact the person the vehicle is registered to. It's been 11 days. It appears that the other driver has friends in really good places. Tomorrow, I'm going to the Sheriff's department and probably going to be fucking arrested for the shit that is about to go down in that station. Then, I'm driving to her place of employment and having a lengthy discussion about her options. Man up and provide insurance, or prepare for a court. Yesterday, I actually seen the girl walk out of a house that is located about 1/4 mile from mine. Front end damaged and all.

That sounds unbelievably frustrating. Make sure you make it clear that you want to press charges.

I would still not directly contact her. Wait til after you figure shit out at the sheriffs, and if they dont do shit, get a lawyer to figure out what to do. Honestly, if the police don't do shit, you could end up suing the PD and getting a nice check from the city

    1. Press the fuck out of whoever is dealing with the police report and your insurance company. Don't be afraid to call a lawyer and ask them if whatever department is breaking the rules by delaying said report so long. It's not in your best interest to confront hit and run skank for now, if they have people in the right places from within.

    2. When your policy expires, run the fuck away from Progressive. They are shit.

    3. Even if it isn't your wifes fault, expect your rates to go up for 3 years.

I wouldn't contact her either, unless there was an insurance rep/lawyer, at the very least a neutral third party of some kind. You're already behind the eight-ball, it sounds like; the moment you contact her, she can say you were trying to threaten and intimidate her.

Don't contact her yourself. Seriously, if you can afford it, hire a lawyer. It's worth the money in a situation like this.

To avoid harassment counter claims, you need to have a constable accompany you to her residence or place of business. Find a non-crooked cop that isn't in this chick's pocket and do work.

Also, maybe you can send an email to your local TV/radio media? They might be interested in reporting how inept your police department/insurance company are. It may do wonders to you and your case.

If the police are really being that inept, it's definitely lawyer time.

And this. Also, since the car is still damaged, if you can find a way to take pictures of the front of her damage car without her noticing; ideally, up close and personal so you can see any possible paint marks left from your car, that might be worth it. If you can find some way to do it on public property (where she works, shopping mall, etc), that'd be better, so you wouldn't be trespassing to get these pictures. I have no idea the legality of such things, but staying off her property seems like a wise course of action. Take those pictures to your first meeting with a lawyer (or even to the cops), and those could literally be worth thousands of dollars.
