Notorious Monsters - First Blood (12/01/2010)

    Deadeyes

    http://static.finalfantasyxiv.com/to...3249b878589a47

Deep within the shadows of the Black Shroud lurks a wolf so fearsome, so terrifying, so unnatural, that local villagers have little choice but to cower in their homes, lest they become his next victim. Legends call the beast Deadeyes, and he is unlike any creature the forest has ever seen. As alpha male, he exhibits the cunning and composure of an army general while leading his pack of slavering minions through the region, showing mo mercy to those unfortunate enough to fall in their path. There has been many a proud hunter boast he will be the one to finally capture Deadeyes, but as of yet, none have survived to fulfill that claim...

    Operation: Wolfsbane

    http://static.finalfantasyxiv.com/to...05972efab08d4d

Recently, there have been numerous reports of a pack of bloodthirsty wolves attacking farmsteads deep within in the Black Shroud. According to eyewitness accounts, the pack is led by a ferocious alpha male with glowing red eyes, and the attacks have been conducted with a military-like precision unlike anything ever seen in the wild. The Brotherhood of the Broken Blade is calling upon its loyal brothers and sisters to join in the patrolling of frequently attacked areas, not only in order to protect the lives of those living there, but also to determine once and for all who is truly behind these assaults.

    Treespeak

Those who are successful in slaying Deadeyes will be rewarded with a special item known as an Allagan runestone. There are a dozen in all, each representing one of the twelve deities who watch over the peoples of Eorzea. Rumor has that in Ul'dah resides a young trader who seeks these rare stones and is offering pieces of finely crafted equipment in exchange.

The following is an example of some of the items available for barter:

    Harlequin Attire

    Fuckin' sweet.

We're probably looking at a set specific for each discipline.

Not to mention these NM leves will probably be as "end-game" as the lv.50 cap will currently allow.

I think they will combine DoL & DoH

Rank 50 faction leve? Probably means rank 50 normal leves will be implemented as well.

Im pretty surprised the thing drops "items" instead of mats.

That be an Ixal, the bird beastmen of XIV. They are pretty much featherless, horned versions of Yagudo. Well, they lost all but a few feathers.

It looks like the Ixal use hot-air balloons to transport wolves around while the Amalj'aa use drake-drawn wagons.

This can't be the whole truth, they gotta include crafters somehow.

Maybe "normal" harlequin gear can be upgraded into "vintage"?

I don't think they should anti-RMT this system, they are already doing good enough job at it.

Also- how are they going to involve crafters and gatherers here... stand on the sidelines and let others kill the mob, get a Dol/DoH drop?

So we looking at 3 sets. They appear to need 0 crafting to obtain them?

Hmm. This set is for DoM. Why would crafters and gatherers need to be involved? Other than the leg piece the rest is for mages.

I was just hoping that some runestones would be used for different pieces of different sets, allowing for more than 12 pieces of gear total for these Rank-50 sets.

Also, I wish they would customize the stats more for the classes they are for. Craftsmanship doesn't quite belong on those tights if they are for mages only. That stat is going to be severely gimped down from 12 if you try to make use of it. They look like they're afraid to change the stats from the standard spread for tights, actons, etc.

I hope the other sets are as hilarious. They can do a lot of things with that golden subligar model.

I doubt craftmanship is affected by this. It wouldn't make any sense to list "Craftmanship+12" on a mage piece just to have it reduced when you switch to DoH. Conjurer and Thaumaturge can't even use the stat.
I know gear stats are reduced if you are on a different class from the one listed but this would be completely useless. It's either a typo or it actually adds +12 to any DoH.

I don't know how you misread what I wrote. Not that crafters could wear them, but you'd need someone with good crafting skill to make them(not just repair them).

It specifically says that it's for optimal for Disciples of Magic at Rank-50. I don't think that would be any kind of typo. However, I don't think any of the stats on these pieces are special whatsoever. They are just Rank-50 numbers of the gear type's usual stats. Tights always have Craftsmanship, Actons always have HP/MP, etc. I am just really hoping they learn to customize stats on gear and stray away from the path it's been following when it comes to special sets like these.

I was replying to Hyan actually. He mentioned DoH and DoL standing on the sidelines for a DoH/DoL drop and I simply pointed out that this is a mage set.

Edit: I don't think I'm being understood here. I'm simply saying that either the "craftmanship+12" on a MAGE set is a typo or it gives +12 craftmanship when you switch to a DoH. It doesn't make sense to list +12 on a stat that mages can't use and have it reduced on a class that can actually use it.
I've yet to see a piece of gear that is only for mages and has craft stats, correct me if I'm wrong here.

    Pure speculation:

Runestones (tokens) are the rewards from faction leves -- this is a design decision because you'll be scheduling these leves and coordinating them with your friends or company or linkshell or whatever. There will be 3 sets to start off with, maybe 4: DoM (Harlequin's), offensive DoW, defensive DoW, and possibly DoL/DoH.

There will be some open-world NMs, but they won't drop anything like set gear. Random pieces here or there and crafting mats.

I don't think the stats on the gear are a mistake in any way. They simply followed the model of itemization for the pieces that they picked for the set and decided not to really change the stat outlay, just the numbers.

    Regardless, I came.

I wonder if Horn and Hand "NM" leve is somehow special.

I mean if these are faction leves, the crafter or gatherer has to at least stand there for the duration of their own leve. They should work on making them have an active role there, if not here.

And still, that these drops aren't crafted sounds worrysome. Then again, there may be more sets unrelated to NM's on the way that are made by crafters and gatherers.

I don't think there's a need to preface this with the fact that it is speculation lol
