    Ask the Devs! (12/03/2010)

    http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com...e82eeb092e84df

The development and management teams continue to address the questions and concerns of the community in an ongoing FAQ. The topic addressed this time around is faction leves.

    Faction Leves
    Q.

    What are faction leves?
    A.

Faction leves are special types of guildleves that are obtained in exchange for a currency known as faction credits. Faction levequests are typically more difficult than their regional levequest counterparts, but offer greater rewards.
    Q.

How do I earn faction credits?
    A.

Faction credits are awarded upon successful completion of regional levequests. Players can learn which of the factions credits will be awarded by viewing a guildleve's details before accepting it.
    Q.

What are the prerequisite conditions for undertaking a faction leve?
    A.

A rank 20 faction leve, for example, can be purchased by a rank 10 player with at least 100 credits with any faction. Players should keep in mind, however, that faction leves are counted together with regional leves. This means that a player who has already ordered the maximum of 8 regional leves cannot obtain a faction leve until the next guildleve reset.
    Q.

I thirst for more faction leves. They will be mine, or I will see this Eorzea turned to ash! What must I do?
    A.

When ranks 10, 20, and 30 are attained, the number of faction leves recommended for ranks 20, 30, and 40 that are available to a player will increase, respectively. In addition, completion of these levequests serves to unlock still more faction leves.

    November Version Update
    Q.

My regional levequest ended all of a sudden while I was in transit. Why did this happen to me?
    A.

In order to improve server load-balancing and alleviate lag, the November version update introduced a system that splits existing areas into several sub-areas. As a result, the effective "ranges" of regional guildleves have become smaller, and some players may be exiting a levequest's area without intending to do so. We apologize for any inconvenience this change has caused.

Would have been nice to place a warning when you get close to a border while in mid-leve...

Not trying to defend the decision to do this, as they should have some sort of warning or simply not kill your leve but... Who the hell wanders that far while on a leve and/or even didn't realize where the borders were? It's painfully obvious when people/mobs load as you cross into each different zone.

    I learned my lesson~

@Mioko: there's a bridge in the black shroud that is literally 10 steps from the "territory" of imps for a leve. If you pull back even to try and reset them, you will fail your leve. Stop being such a fucking apologist. It's not hard to put a "warning" up on the screen when you get a few feet from an INVISIBLE zoneline.

    Jesus Christ.

Oh, you mean like I said? Asswipe.

Still, it's fucking obvious where the zone lines are if you've ever walked around the zone at all. And how does pulling mobs back involve crossing a bridge that you hadn't crossed before you reached the mobs?

Even more to that point, doesn't it tell you when you are about to leave and instance (which has visible zone lines)? I don't see what the hang up would be on adding that to leves as well.

Pulling back a few yards to reset a mob to heal shouldn't screw up a leve. And no, TacoTaru, it didn't give me a message; the mobs just went back to their territory and it told me I failed. That's a great system for getting people back into the game.

Maybe I worded that poorly. What I meant was if the intro/beginning missions have a warning about leaving an instance when their zone lines are clearly visible on the minimap, then there isn't an excuse for leves to have something similar when failure can be as close to the enemy as your example and you have no idea when you're going to fail.

I've been wondering about this in regards to local leves because all I ever see are 2-3 leves for my rank across all 3 cities.

Well, with local leves, it's a different story. New tiers magically appear when you reach an appropriate rank, but the game randomly picks the leves out of a hat each reset and never eliminates previous tiers of leves. And there is no such thing as local faction leves, so I don't think this particular Q&A bit applies to local leves at all.

Oh so I have to do the piece of shit ones to unlock potential useful ones, great. I guess I better stop hoarding my Faction Points and do the fetch quest's and kill X monsters so I can do some good ones that have strategic battles and good rewards.

Pretty sure all of them offer some r/ex or vintage item mat some of the time. Get 5/5 Onion set while you wait for better leves.

I get the whole invisible zone line thing (although it's still fail since if they knew how to program for shit it would be transparent and nobody would even know it existed). What I don't understand is why they have to cancel your leve if you go outside of ANY zone. Who cares if you're in Mor'Dhana and you have a level in LL. WHO FUCKING CARES? This is just their complexifier at work - Everything in the game must be nonsensical or it doesn't pass.

This one million fucking times over. Seriously, this is spot on. Also, are people really still surprised by Mio's hipster die-hard fanboy responses?
