PS2/3 Drive Space Update Error [now w/ Xbax]

I called SE again and they told me to format the HD using the PS2 HDD disc... which I'm not going to bother what. I'm curious, does anyone know if I could put my PS2 HD into my PC and extract the macros/map markers, logon through windows with all those in-tact, and back them up?

PC can't read the PS2 file system. You need your PS2 to be capable of running homebrew, and then you need the latest version of uLaunchELF running on your PS2 to copy those files to a USB flash drive. Macro and map marker files are the few files that are identical between the PS2 and PC versions.

You can also use that to delete temporary files, if it can be figured out which ones are causing the problem, so the patch will work.

All you need to run uLaunchELF on an FFXI-compatible PS2 is for someone to set up FreeMCBoot on a memory card for you with an already modified system, as the system will boot the exploit from that memory card without modification. PSX-Scene has plenty of people offering to do it if you mail them a memory card to set up for you.

Deleted ALL of my screenshots, mail(read/composed/sent), messages(read/composed/sent)... basically anything I have done on the game user side since 2003...

I'm on ps2 as well and following how people fare with this.

on a related note, did they discontinue chat support via the pol website? Pol website only mentions email support.

ok well i was ahead of myself on saying mine worked. turns out i did need the expansions installed again and when i got to doing that ran into same problem. guess ima try again but include pol also. Ill try the deleting pics and messages and such too.

I'm having the same problem with my ps2 as others, getting the not enough space on hdd while attempting the update. I tried to follow the pol notes( http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/pol...ews20166.shtml ) but my ps2 won't read any of my ffxi discs or any other games. The disc tray opens and closes just fine but isn't reading. Haven't used a game disc in it for many years guess it went out. When I used to play games from a disc it was really fucking loud when it would read from it, sounded like a jet engine starting up. No jet engine sound now and no disc reading. I'm interested in repairing it if anyone has any information or possible diagnosis. Thinking maybe it's the laser.

Also having xbox freeze/crash in abyssea-all. I can be in the zone for hours and then run up to a martello and freeze. If it doesn't freeze npc stuff sometimes won't load on screen. The not loading npcs I've been dealing with since abyssea came out but the crashing shit sucks

In my experience with fixing ps2s most of the time if you take it apart and clean all the dust out of the system and clean the laser lens then you can usually get the system to read discs for a bit, thats how I was able to get mine to read the discs for reinstallation.

As far as the update fix, my ps2 has been downloading files all night and still 5000 left to go. Hopefully it finishes in the next few hours so I can actually enjoy the update.

xbox is freezing on character select now, 1st was happening in port jeuno and abyssea now i cant even get on, been at least 2hrs, shit is garbage

My brother just got it to work with the vanacollection disc as well after he deleted everything user side... he failed with the original disc(got the same error). I must say this is the most retarded fix ever....but fix none the less...

ok so either im missing something or i found at least part of the problem in a way. the 1st time all i did was a clean installation of ffxi with rise of zilart (since its packaged together on original disc) and when I updated after that it came out to a total of 22k+ files in the update. after which i realized the rest of the expansions were removed also and i hit the same problem trying to install the expansions. So next i did a clean install of POL (even deleted all content i had saved through pol b4 hand just in case) then proceeded to install ffxi again and each expansion. After installing all the discs i log on and start the update and its a total of 12.5k files(currently downloading so past the prepare stage). I wont know for some time if this really is the end of my troubles but just looking at this am I missing something or is this evidence of what caused the probs to begin with?

This worked for my PS2 as well. I used a Vanadiel Collection disc purchased back in 2008 and followed the instructions that Square Enix posted. 10 hours max for installation and the updates.

my ps2 no longe reads discs, so i went and got a used ps2 from gamestop, would it be best for me to get the HDD disc so i can reset the HDD for the new ps2, or will a new copy of ffxi work as well, (i still have all the exp discs that i used when they were released)to use to udate.

my xbox was fine the whole first day. it started freezing yesterday and now today its been horrible. its even worse when i dc in abyssea cuz it wastes my time-.- i wonder when theyre gona patch this up; ;

edit: ok just dc 9x in a row and im just not gona try anymore. the second i log it freezes up lol @120+ min in abyssea too.... /sigh
