So selling an item is extortion now? Sounds to me more like a market economy. In case you didn't realize, the developers even implemented a currency in the game called "gil" that was created for the sole purpose of item trade between players.

I'll concede that "Extort" isn't an accurate term, but I was trying to point out that when you reply to a request with just "50k" you come off like a douche. Then when people respond to that angrily, you forfeit the ability to say anything about it. Provoking someone then making fun of them for being provoked is just... bullying? Draylo mentioned it was a joke bid but in no way did it read like a joke, that's all.

I understand what you are saying, however I really don't see how asking for gil in return (or even saying no regardless) is being a douche. Just because many people out there are nice enough to give people things they don't need or want doesn't mean people should expect the same from everyone else. I can't tell you how many times I've killed something like Rani selling Epona's Rings and had people spam /tells at me while I'm trying to keep myself alive (2box) and blue !! it saying "invite me for win please" and when I tell them "sorry, I'm busy right now" and end up killing it they freak out on me telling me how much of an asshole I am for not inviting them. While I admit it would've been nice of me to invite them, I don't see how not inviting them is me being an asshole. Same mentality is being applied here in my eyes with the seals.

Honestly, people come across as douches asking in the first place without offering something in return (which by no means has to be accepted but at least offered). It's people that try to freeload off of others that are truly douche bags, whether it be someone trying to leech off a group claiming a monster or being superior players. Just as a disagreement to your conception of naming a price as provoking.

Valid points all around, I guess we just chalk this one up to varying opinions about what's acceptable communications. No harm no foul; I agree to a point that people shouldn't just expect seals from anyone else's NM, but I personally wouldn't have made a "joke" about it costing any money.

Valefor's been fun lately... part of it's 'cause I haven't bothered to block Welfare, but he provides me with a good deal of amusement between the annoyances, so... yeah.

There's this guy who's constantly on /anon WHM60+ (judging by gear), Hashhman. He sits in PJ and shouts all day for people to do stuff for him or tell him where to go. He shouted about fifteen times "Where is Garlaige Citadel" "Can someone take me to Garlaige Citadel" before this. He doesn't actually spell it that well... as you'll see in the first screenshot earlier. The other day he was shouting for people to GIVE him WHM defense gear for Maat. Not sell, give.

So, in the first part of the screenshot that I missed, he was shouting for someone to take him to "Cape Terongy" which is where this fun begins:
