its a random question but relevant for this thread/rani. Is meteor considered magic damage? If so a stacked dd pt cycling fool's powders after 50% should do the trick without any mess (other then charms)

Meteor is by far less harmful than blizzaga/thundaga IV and even then you shouldn't need to use fool's once during the whole fight

Does Fool's block Charm? I recall doing a Titlacauan once and someone got charmed with Fools Drink up and I could no longer sleep him. Was quite hilarious in an awful way.

Perfect Defense doesn't block Charm either from AV experience.

Edit: Actually, additionally curious how long did it take you to kill it with a brew up? 30 sec? 1 min? the full brew time?

I was under the impression it used higher tier spells as its hp got lower so if you idle it @ 30% and reclaim without it regening it still will start from 30% AI.

Let me explain better: That LS got Rani down to 37%, then due to some trouble, it began to regen. Eventually, it regen'd back to about 55%. That's when they let it go unclaimed. After killing a few more people, it went passive and ticked up to about 65%. At that point, that same LS re-claimed it. It was able to use tier4-ga spells at the time that it was re-claimed.

Or so I thought. Looking back over the log, I don't actually see it casting tier4 ga spells before it was brought back down under 50% again.

I have yet to witness DT "wearing off" other than completely idling it, based on others reports of fighting it I would say this is unlikely that it happened, but I was wrong w/ meteor so who knows, possibly AI related as well.

Uhmmmmm..... Really? You didn't figure that one out? You don't have it in logs but rani used sytgian sphere. If you deal dmg to it while it uses that tp move it gains the amount of damage healed as a SS effect a la Glavoid.

i am someone who doubted the power of the brew....

then i used on my wife's L86 rdm and brewed rani at 50%....1 nuke does 11k and rani died just like that -_-

1 nuke took off 10% so you can easily do it from 100%

Yes from our experience with Rani last night, 100->50% is easy breezy , meteor is inconsequential if you keep mages out of range and melee in the 3k+ hp range. Problem is from thundaga4 (our fight started on Iceday.. ended on lights so 4.5~4.8k thundaga4's were not survivable without aegis's). The kicker was the rate at which it charms .. i would barely be able to get 1-2 WS in between its charms and then it would regen/stygian heal/stoneskin while we would kite it.

Hindsight.. cant use your standard zerg melee broken atmas setup for Rani that you can for everything else in abyssea, bring at least 1 PLD (w/ aegis hopefully) he doesnt need to tank just run in and east agas with your dds or bring 2 plds and bounce it from a distance so both pld dont get charmed... and rely on SMN for dd, i guess PLD isnt a dead job again !

Or get MDT sets on 2 melee on the mob, either/or. Had 16% mdt on nin and w/ shell V thundaga never dropped me to dead (2400-2500hp) if I had a cotank, and I think it's only dropped me dead twice when I was on it solo. Smns aren't a bad dd choice for tho. Has anyone who has fought it recently have the logs of fight? I'm wondering if the amount healed by Stygian itself is counted into the SS effect

I would say so. In our fight last night for the most part we did a good job of turning and it would still get a massive stoneskin.
