A friend with rng leveled told me it has no effect when used on a mob with TH on. idk if he tested or read that though.

I don't see the question about melee in TH gear to be settled. What remains unanswered is whether the current level of TH gear has any effect on the rate at which one upgrades the TH value, or if there is any sort tiering of upgrade chance.

We can say 'random shit is random', but less than a week into the update we don't really have enough data to support either conclusion.

Well, since the % chance of proc'ing a TH upgrade seems low, it would take a significant controlled test environment to figure out the proc rates. I'm not a serious enough THF to sit down and do that. I just throw on all my TH gear, wear haste/ACC, auto-attack and tab to my BRD where I actually have to pay attention.

seems to be a 33-50% proc rate when performing a successful SA or TA...and what the fuck? BRD requires paying attention? U srs?

It's definitely not that high if it's a flat number. In my tests vs lebros caverns walls I performed 12 TA+SA in a row without a successful upgrade. (after already being at +3 over my gear value)

The update information did say "The Damage dealt through...", so perhaps the damage dealt has an impact on proccing +1 to TH when using SA / TA, which would explain your low proc rate on Brittle wall, probably only doing 30-40 Dmg.

Idk, You gotta Line up SA, line up Trick Attack, Collaborate those with hate, make sure feint is on, Use Status bolts if they land, Trigger the right Blue WS if its piercing time, Keep Conspirator up on the DD when the timers ready, be ready to put on EVA Set if you get hate, Aura-Steal a buff the mob points on if it comes up, etc.

See, I can name a bunch of mundane useless tasks that take no effort at all and probably a whole 30 seconds worth of macro hitting to make it seem like my job is really hard to master.

I'd sooo much like to know a BRD who cares to do all of that...

Just to confirm TH effect does stay on a mob when you die. Was fighting Moth in Chasm last night and proc. an 8 then got killed. Raised and did another round of SA/TA and effect increased to 9.

Don't think he's saying the job is hard to master, just that when we're low-manning his time is better spent paying attention to his bard, which can contribute more to the group. I say this as the person usually playing the "tank", and fully agree with his assessment of the situation (he's also generally the only one paying attention/able to quickly -na, as our only "healer" is a PL-bot that doesn't do so well on the -nas).

Doesn't that kind of awesome you're with lazy players, and in turn a little biased :\?

Also, there was just a little grain of truth in my Sarcasm, THF is more than just a "Hit SA/TA macro" job. But you seemed to have explained their point much more effectively.

    I understand that.

Edit: PL Bot, I see. You're a duo partner with him, and he's Dualboxing his THF and his BRD. See, That makes so much more sense.

I did say earlier that I didn't take THF seriously enough to even bother testing, let alone care about the THF-specific tasks. I don't even carry an evasion set or hell, status bolts. I 'pull' with an Aureole for crying out loud. You'd be lucky if I bothered TA+WS'ing. I do tab over and Collaborator periodically for the overly active BLM trying to proc grellow !!

But in a low-man NM farming situation which is the case for much of Abyssea, BRD/WHM is significantly more active in my case.

Anyways, back on topic; I've tagged a NM, died, homepointed, returned to tag again and got a TH upgrade. Once a mob is tagged, it doesn't matter if you're there or not.

I like how Failure Explained it better, Took me a while to get it but i see what they're saying.

You dual box a THF and a BRD in a low-man situation where your only healer is a bot and you're quicker on -Na spells.

Either way! Aureole is for gimps! pick up a Raider's Boomerang

Don't need an evasion set or bolts to care about THF. I haven't had an evasion set in years and I only used acid bolts for pulling before I got a Raider's Boomerang (and for that matter, acids would be the only ones worth the damage you lose by standing and firing an Xbow -- and they never proc on anything worth its salt)

Even Collaborator/Accomplice are pretty much pointless now, unless you are TRYING to tank, since PLD has gone the way of the dinosaurs in 9/10 fights.

Actually funny thing, last night I was told that earlier when one of our THFs died, when he got back up and started whacking it later, he upgraded to a Tier he already got before he died. So it seems to be there are at least some conditions in which the debuff gets removed.

Feel free to link me to a free/easy to setup one that's better than FFXI PL. It handles curing more than fine, bard handles the rest. I don't see a problem with that, though I guess if it parsed the log and used the appropriate -na, that'd be cool too.

hate to say it but i think the additonal proc are considered a status effect on the mob. fighting hpemde in sea and when they do rapid molt there's an effect that is removed. no feint/bolts used to give any effects, and in the past they didn't remove an effect when i was lv75

Th has always been considered a status effect on the mob. However, the new "upgrades" may be handled differently.

Earlier today a thief friend of mine tested to see if upgrades would stack. Basically, he started out with no TH gear on, and upgraded to 3 (not 90). Then, he put his TH gear on (TH4) and his next upgrade put the TH at 6. Seems to consider TH upgrades as a seperate status effect.

I had exactly the opposite experience yesterday. Started in TH3 (90THF) got Proc to level 4 -> put AA/RP+2/TK on and the next proc was level 7. Had the effect added to the TH6 I equipped into, the next proc should have been level 8.
