I've noticed some equipment has "physics" to it, actually. There's a setting for that in-game.
Like the small bags in the belt of botanist's starting gear kinda move around and are not simply glued to the body (if physics are on).

It's easier to do in single player games, there's a lot less to account for and you'd have more resources to have some nice physics going on the clothing. For MMOs, specifically XIV I bet it would be stiff. Considering you can turn the physics off, I can't imagine how that would look with a cape. They would probably need to hand-key the entire thing incase someone doesn't use physics, or maybe because having physics would further kill performance (right now it affects things in a pretty subtle way, hair being the least subtle).
Either way, they'd have to do it right, otherwise it will suuuuuck. And I also noticed that Naruto: ultimate ninja storm 2 had nice physics, but it's a fighting game. They're allowed to do a lot more stuff with characters because of the focus. I reckon it'll be another 10 years before we get close to doing it right in MMOs.
I have the physics set but its still tiny compared to what could be done in such a vast, expensive "next-gen" game like XIV!
@Elcura: XIV is very stiff anyway. XI was stiff. Thank God they implemented those "start-up" and momentum animations for running in this game, or it would have been far worse.
Let's not forget the fun, the beauty, the e-peen +1 of posting the first item of a type on AH for 1 gil, forever logged on the server as first to have it.
Kinda' on topic:
Thaumaturge: Cloaks/Cowls (creepy, hooded, dark mage look)
Conjurers: Robes/Hats (cliche wizard/BLM look)
Arcanists: Gowns/Glasses (intellectual/inventor/alchemist look)
That's what they dress everyone in for unique screenshots and class photo day, and its possible that each class will have a "JSE" that will conform to that logic, but still, they haven't done a very good job at all of varying the look of the classes thus far.
Its early though.
I agree and I was really hoping they would start with these sets.
We probably won't see such a thing until our "Artifact" equivalents or important end-game battles where specific jobs start establishing their optimal gear sets.
Now there's gonna be a post called "Drake's Inception" for DOUBLE the pop culture reference!
