This lack of Caps lock key will probably be added back in. Knowing Google this is probably just a way to create viral marketing and bring awareness of their product. The best advertising is free advertising (especially when it's such a dumb concept that it's easy to sink in) It will most likely be re-added in final development as there are still uses for the caps lock key as Callisto pointed out and no one really gains anything from taking it out.

the look of this laptop is highly irrelevant, its a reference model for devs/oems/qa/etc to play around with.

you aren't going to be using this laptop for non-internet based apps. you won't miss capslock on this device more than you despise cruise control from trolls.

The look of the laptop is relevant due to the posted article being like HOLY SHIT THIS LAPTOP IS GORGEOUS when it is in fact boxy, ugly, and looks exactly like every basic-ass business laptop made in the last 15 years.

IMO, it's hard to say from just pictures. The clean look of it is rather nice, IMO, though that sort of thing is subjective. Frankly, it basically looks like the previous-gen Macbook, only it'd be a little smaller.

The real key, I'd say, is the actual feel of the device. If it's really solid, then that's a great design. If it's plasticky, then meh.
