Playonline Error

I've been away from FFXI a few months. I decided to run the updates so I could go explore the new content, but when I try to run Playonline it crashes every time. I was up to date on patches through the September version update. I can't for the life of me figure out the problem. I tried turning off windowed mode and it didn't help.

I can't even get to the sign-in screen. It opens all black, then crashes 5 seconds later.

I'm really hoping to not have to reinstall. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Well damn, talk about coincidences. I was about to make a thread about the same problem. I just re-installed FFXI (via Steam) and get the same thing - POL opens, stays black for a few seconds and crashes.

Edit: Are you using an ATI card? It looks like it might be this: http://forums.amd.com/game/messagevi...&enterthread=y

Edit: So I downgraded from the 10.11 to 10.8 drivers and that seems to have fixed it; POL runs fine now. Try that and see if you have the same results.

Download POL here rather from Steam or a disc you've had in the past.
