They wanted to create the sense of them getting back together again. Except they even halfassed that and didn't really develop it at all this time around. Great game, but suffered near the end a bit.

I was happy about the minimal uses of puzzles this time though. The previous games had some really slow chapters. Could've done without the desert one in this.

I didn't mind the puzzles that much. But I also found I didn't miss them at all. It did feel half assed and rushed. I still had a great time playing it but it definitely left you wanting more. They had such a golden opportunity to explore more of Nate's back story and they left it largely untouched.

Patch 1.13 for Uncharted 3’s Multiplayer has been months in the making. We have decided that releasing just a part 2 of our notes wasn’t appropriate for the scope of this patch so we are revealing the whole shebang now. Also, we’re planning on deploying the patch a week earlier than we thought possible. So find a comfortable chair, brace yourself, and read on.

    Patch Deployment Date

First off, patch 1.13 will be available today, August 7 although some of the patch content won’t roll live until the August 14 PSN store update. The content coming August 14th is purely DLC related. Yup, there’s new Uncharted 3 multiplayer DLC coming. We have a quaint teaser video for you in regard to the scope of the DLC:

    Character Items

As you see we’re adding over 100 pieces of unique, new content to Uncharted 3’s multiplayer in this patch. The upcoming DLC can be unlocked either by earning the necessary in-game levels, completing specific treasure sets through playing or via a PS Store purchase if you’d rather unlock a certain item more quickly. A couple items, such as the Jak Goggles, can only be bought and any items related to the two new Legacy levels we’re introducing in patch 1.13 must be earned. All DLC content will be rolling out on a weekly basis starting August 14 and continuing until September 4. We’ll have a weekly blog post on NaughtyDog.com to detail the content and specifics of each drop.

Aside from DLC, there’s a ton more to patch 1.13. Before reading on, if you’d rather hear us talk about all that’s happening here’s a video that rolls through the entire patch notes:

    Block Mesh Maps

As mentioned in the video above and teased previously, we’re very excited to announce that new experimental block mesh maps are coming to The Lab. Block mesh maps are maps of colored block mesh that have been designed by the imaginative artists and designers here at Naughty Dog to provide some wild and distinct multiplayer gameplay. We’ll be posting a schedule for the upcoming labs in the near future so be on the

    Tournament System

A major aspect of this patch is that we’re introducing a whole new system to Uncharted 3’s multiplayer. The Tournament System ushers in a points-based competition that rewards you with in-game weapons and items. There will be three reward tiers which grant you special in-game weapons or items based on how well you’ve played. Once you unlock a weapon or item it’s yours to use until the next tournament period. The points formula for the tournament is as follows:

    Points = [1000 + (10*kills) + (2.5*assists) – (8*deaths)] * [1.2-(party size*0.2)]

The math just helps to keep the numbers nice, clean and round. A tournament leaderboard will be added to the leaderboards section so you can track your skill level among your friends. For a look at the tournament system, and insight into how it all works, check out the video and Q&A over on IGN as it covers off the rules and specifics and features Lead Multiplayer Designer Robert Cogburn and Gameplay Designer Robert Ryan.

    Patch 1.13 Details

While new Labs, new DLC and the Tournament System are the major elements of Patch 1.13, there’s a laundry list of other changes and improvements we made to the multiplayer experience. Here’s a list of all the features added and gameplay changes that will arrive in patch 1.13.

I was really confused reading the first few paragraphs wondering when they had charged people to play uncharted multiplayer because I remember playing it without them tacking on any other price tag. then the article finally explained that if you don't own the game you can download part of it for free to try the multiplayer

It’s been two years since Uncharted 3 was released. Our community is simply amazing, and we’re looking to make it stronger than ever. To that end, we combed over a multitude of comments and forum posts to see what you wanted changed in the multiplayer game. We took the most highly-sought changes mentioned and made them happen. The list of those changes is below, and it’s an epic patch that rivals patch 1.13.

If you want to talk to us more about any of the changes, please join us in our Reddit AMA celebrating the Uncharted 3 two year anniversary Friday, November 1st from 3:00 PM to 4:30PM PT. Uncharted 3 Game Director Justin Richmond and Lead Game Designer Robert Cogburn will be answering your questions.

We wanted to celebrate our two biggest changes to the multiplayer in a video.

A new map, and all our DLC maps, meaning all the multiplayer maps are now free… pretty cool, huh? We asked Lead Game Designer Robert Cogburn to shed a little insight on the making of the Dry Docks map.

Robert Cogburn: When the Dry Docks map was pitched as a single-player level for Uncharted 3, the talented Game Designer Junki Saita was working on a number of setups for the level. All these level setups were represented in a blockmesh format - this is a 3D representation of a playable space using rudimentary geometry made in Maya (the 3D program we use at Naughty Dog). We’ve shown a number of maps like this for Uncharted 3 Multiplayer via our Block Mesh Lab Maps.

Junki was working on one particular setup that showed a lot of promise for a multiplayer map, so I grabbed the blockmesh and started editing it for competitive multiplayer. After some time had passed, it was determined the setup for single player would not be used, and instead the single-player layout you see in the final version of the game was completed. This meant what I had done to make Dry Docks would ONLY be used for multiplayer.

Making games is very time consuming, so you cut things when it makes sense. It made sense to prevent our art team from investing time into the multiplayer version of Dry Docks to match the level of quality we adhere to at Naughty Dog - therefore the Dry Docks map was cut.

A little less than two years passed and the map was forgotten.

With the two year anniversary for Uncharted 3 and its multiplayer, and the number of cool things we’re doing for 1.18, we decided to resurrect this map and release it to our fans. It’s quite different than the original version, but the changes we’ve implemented have made Dry Docks all the better.

    We hope you enjoy it.

I couldn't really get into the multi player. Cool that all the maps are now free. But that's not going to entice me enough to give it another try.
