If all you've ever seen is Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, you'd probably think it was pretty funny. Someone else comes along, someone who's just finished watching, say, Superbad, and says that Deuce Bigalow is unfunny. Is it literally true? Probably not, if they watched Deuce Bigalow again they'd probably at least chuckle, but the funniness in comparison is so trivial it can be ignored.

my argument wasn't in any way in defense of Abyssea but in countering your flawed logic. its fine if you didn't enjoy abyssea, but don't hold others to your level of fun, and don't assume you know better than others. I think FFXIV is utter crap right now and i'm sure people would defend it and it wouldn't matter to me because my opinion is what my actions are based upon, not theirs. But I'm not about to convince them I'm right because its not really my concern what they're spending their time on.

There is as little that you can account for taste as you can account for anything being fun. Individuals tastes differ, and so do their perceptions of fun. I wouldn't be lying if I said I feel some FFXI players have sadomasochistic tendencies in the way they play and enjoy the game, but if thats their idea of fun, and their taste preference, I have no position to feel inclined to point out they shouldn't be having fun if they are.

Personally, the most exciting part of Abyssea for me isn't even in playing in it, but figuring out how the system works and what goes where. I could find better fun elsewhere, but I'm willing to settle for what I'm getting at the moment. I think if you're going to argue about anything against Abyssea or FFXI in general, just be mindful that people are always willing to stick with status quo even when they know better alternatives do exist.

XI is thinking very short-term right now... but with reason. However, they are going to burn the game out real quick if they don't think of what to do about people hitting 90+ and having nothing to do but Magian Trials... which currently serve no purpose other than making big numbers appear on the screen.

You downplay how important that is in an MMO? I thought the vast majority of this game, even during its "prime", was to obtain better gear. Leveling as a "challenge" in this game lost its appeal long ago. Minor events such as chocobo racing and planktron only capture attention temporarily. Even events such as MMM only maintained its appeal because of acquired gear. Abyssea was especially captivating because it removed stringent barriers to obtaining the best gear. The only reason is *appears* to be bad is because BG is full of people who were "monopolizing" the scene prior to Abyssea, so when something like that comes along, their pride and joy (gear) becomes devalued. Furthermore, since they're accustomed to stringent conditions, Abyssea comes off as too easy.

You want facts ? Fine. 80k active players quit since abyssea start. This is minus 1/3 of the population. Obviously those dont consider it fact that abyssea be fun. Turns out you are the one trying to convince others that they are wrong on the internet. It's pretty obvious that a large amount of players dont like it even after giving it a try. Why ? Because this minus 80k take into account those that came back so in reality a lot more got disgusted. I guess we will do a bilan in 2 months ? But right now the game loses half of a server every week. This is fact. Now where are yours ? How can you tell the vast majority of players find it fun when all abyssea will have managed is kick 1/2 of the player base 2 months from now ?

FFXIV and Cataclysm have absolutely nothing to do with this right? Did you ask all those players why they quit one by one?
The fact is I've seen friends that quit come back. You have nothing to support your silly argument other than "some people quit". Completely ignoring why they did is just stupid but go ahead. You guys are doing such a bad job bashing Abyssea it's not even funny.
You want your amazing Colibri exp pts back? Go ahead, they're all there. Don't come here and cry when it takes you a lot more to hit the cap than simply joining an Abyssea party.
Let's also not forget that some people are just stupid to begin with, quitting because their precious gear became obsolete and they don't wanna put some work into getting more. Empyrean is really easy to get and rewards you more than other things in this game. Before the update Relic gear was actually harder to obtain.
Now the game will see something new as both Abyssea and Wings are done and we need something for the next 9 levels. If you fail to see that something is coming up, especially with SE's need to keep subs thanks to FFXIV, then quit and shut the hell up.
I don't see why people feel the need to tell others what they should enjoy and what they shouldn't. Go and play WoW if it's "so much better" for you, I'm fine playing FFXI and so are other people. Assuming we all cling to this game because of its name alone is retarded and I'm honestly surprised you even played this game considering how much you bash it now.
