That would be retarded for all parties involved. You are a bad idea factory.

This is truly epic. When I read this in the E-Mail I got, I was astounded. SE apologizing for anything is taboo. Now I pray they make XIV a XIv2.
SE is refunding everyone that purchased the game via free play time. The sad truth is that we are in a beta that you had to pay to join and SE finally admitted it.
They are doing exactly what they should: letting players continue to play and give feedback while they try and make the game better.
Tanaka had to take the fall because it was his fucking fault. I don't care what FFXI is like now, when it first came out it was boring as fuck. Standing around for 3 hours waiting for a party, grinding the same fucking shit for 15 hours. There was NOTHING TO DO in that game before you were at the level cap, and the fact that his design philosophy carried over into 14 is painfully obvious. If everyone and their mothers were alerady rank 50 in 14 then there wouldn't be an issue, because they would have also made tons of r50 content to go along with it.
That's why it's tanaka's fault, and that's why he fucking fails and deserves to be hung out like a wet pair of underwear. He just doesn't understand what "fun" is. FFXI was a job, everyone fucking knows it, maybe it got better with Abyssea but guess what, that was when new blood came on the team.
I also don't see where you're getting the idea that Komoto was the reason behind the market system. Pretty sure that would have been the designers / producers. The Director has a much higher level role.
@Agito What you're suggesting is by far the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
People have a hard time discerning which experiences are native to jumping into a fresh MMORPG that just launched and which experiences Tanaka is directly at fault for.
I still think that the market system isnt a bad idea, it's great as far as a way to make players interact more with those around them. If there was content, large population, and the game was actually enjoyable I think people would got over it.
Yeah dude, contrary to popular FF-MMO-playing fanboy belief, not every MMO launches with lack of content or incredibly boring content. It's a Tanaka thing.
I think part of the problem with SE si that all of their big name game designers are like 50. That shit just isn't gonna work in this day and age. Get some 25 year olds in there to be the star game designers of tomorrow. And that's not so much of a SE thing, but a Japan thing as a whole. Almost every famous Japanese game designer now is fast approaching 50. It's just time for a generation of people that understands what people want TODAY.
XI was also modeled as a Japanese version of Everquest, something that it succeeded at. ALL mmos before it were tedious, grinding, slow, plodding, punishing games that rewarded only the most tenacious (and slovenly). XI was a frustrating pile when we got our hands on it, but there was still something excellent about it at the same time.
@Bruiser: You see a lot of that in the automobile industry as well. You've got a lot of people sick and tired of these 40-something mid-size sedans being churned out of every company, and everything aimed at the "younger" audience is underpowered junk. The great minds that made the great vehicles of the 60's are all old, and yet many of them are still at the heads of their companies. At some point, young, fresh talent needs to be allowed to showcase their stuff. Its essential for businesses to grow and evolve.
Bringing in fresh faces in theory will increase the chances of them creating something creative and solid. Artists who blow up and create their best work are always expected to create something equally as great in the future, but that's just not realistic.
All this shows is they had everything to lose by releasing it when they did and nothing to gain. Nobody in their right mind, dev related, could of thought the game was ready for retail, and they can spew that time-table bullshit... but I'm sorry, if a game is in such a piss pour state for retail then you fuckin push it back. Look at what DCU did. They delayed their game for an undisclosed amount of time 20 days before release because the game just wasn't ready (but who knows, maybe they saw what happened to FFXIV and got wise). The game didn't even sell that well because ppl who heard about it or played it knew that it was total shit and only the loyal FF ppl bought it thinking things would be different.
And now they keep giving free months of play, but that doesn't help them because people aren't sticking around to play a bad game. I think 90% of the ppl who play now would still be playing if they had to pay each month. Their only chance at a come back is if companies review the PS3 release. But they pushed that back, so why didn't they push back the main product is beyond me.
They pushed back PS3 release obviously because it's their last chance. If the word about 14 when it gets on ps3 isnt "OMFG you gotta play it's so good" they shit out of luck.
holy shit balls at this news.
I won't jump on the "everything will get fixed" yet for two reasons.
1. didn't fix warhammer (though obviously SE is willing to pump in more many into it than EA was).
2. Never played FFXI with all the recent abyssa stuff, so I only know stuff about it second hand.
It does look promising though. Should be interesting once the ps3 version finally comes, maybe I'll be bored of cata by then.
During beta, I said the market ward system = 100,000 different ideas on a 'set price' (simple economics really).
The accessibility sacrificed to make this system, though, is just not worth it. It's completely medieval. How can you do business on a regular basis without access to materials and a set price? You have no clue if you'll even find what you're looking for at all. An AH spits that out up front, and a Market system could take hours to tell you.
The AH will deflate the economy, sure, without easy access to cash. We all saw the RMT days, a couple people get their mom's credit cards and boom - Okote are up 1.5M this week. In a way, crafting was more exciting then - You could log on and make a million in ten minutes on Amemet+1's.
Make access too easy though and you'll just blow the currency up
LOL.
You're kidding right? You could describe the whole genre with that one sentence.
Exactly. Fucking old fart worshipping needs to stop for both the company and the fans. It's dumb. Kitase out, Nomura out, Amano can stay.I think part of the problem with SE si that all of their big name game designers are like 50. That shit just isn't gonna work in this day and age. Get some 25 year olds in there to be the star game designers of tomorrow.
This no-name guy will definitely bring some fresh air into this game, whether it's a good thing or not we'll definitely find out soon.
