They 'righted' it as soon as there was a need to do so.
Which is pretty early in XIV's case.

Leaving the bit about XI out, since it isn't relevant whether I agree or not, isn't that why Tanaka being ousted and this restructuring of management so significant? Because even if XIV was set to follow in those same footsteps, by changing the people in charge it will ultimately also change how the game progresses. A few days ago "this will probably be the case of 14" might have been accurate, but now there's been a new toss of the dice and we're all still waiting to see the pips.
New avatar for anyone that wants it. It's a bit rough as it was my first time making one of these. Also the only image I could find of this dude was the one on the 14 site... Wtf I know right? Would've been much better had I started with a high-res image. ;/
Spoiler: show
YES WE CAN.
ROFL nice!
Pssst I suggest you rehost this before we get the photobucket bandwidth exceeded. Coincidentally this.
I certainly hope he has more charisma than Tanaka. Man sucked when it came to anything related to PR.
Maybe he... he even... speaks English.
@Ragns Took your advice.
@ Hyan Now wouldn't that be something... And I'm not talking Sundi English either.
Either way, Yoshida looks 100x more badass than Tanaka.
Checked out a vid for the game this guy has directed..
plus the fact that we have... battle graphic & special effects director, battle director, and another battle graphic & special effects director, and the guy from the next-gen engine development (Sonic engine guy) leading the development...
it's not too hard to guess where they're trying to go with this set-up, lol. Betting 10$ the new direction has something to do with combat.
If it means we're getting a combat overhaul, then I'm all for it. Combat is terribly slow and boring as a mage, especially compared to these movies I'm seeing of Rift and other games. Multi-targeting, for one, would help. Anything to ease up this slooooowwwww feeling I get on my mage.
i would love a combat overhaul. everytime i see footage of some of the upcoming MMO's i'm completely mesmerized, and subsequently saddened that 14 will never come close.
or how about for starters, make sheathing/unsheathing immediate instead of having the unnecessary delay that's tacked on?
One of the things I hope they think of, if they do change the battle system, is maybe add something to give the player an incentive to try to do better. Yeah, when grinding on monsters killing faster means moving on to the next target sooner, but one thing I liked about FFXI's exp chain system was that if you tried harder you would be rewarded more. It always gave me the feeling that I needed to try to do my best every fight. Another thing is maybe make behest boss monsters (or at least I always think they should be bosses at the end) not die faster than 5 seconds.
Lastly, hopefully battle regimens get looked at and altered so they become easier to use. I've been using them, but the fact you have to stop everything you are doing, queue up your actions, and then trigger it before you can continue made it clunky. It would be better if you could queue up actions but still be able to continue to attack/cure/etc until someone hits G, then maybe wait for everyone to finish with their current action and then fire off the regimen. Guess we'll just have to wait until the next post on the lodestone to see what they are up to.
Maybe an exp bonus multiplier % added to the guildleve system. Right now you get more gil the faster you finish a leve, but what's a better incentive to do better than moar exp?
I certainly hope this is not what they're aiming for. Snappier combat = yes, please though. I wouldn't mind a certain amount of flashiness, either. The guys in charge seem to be specialized in that field. That vid was nothing but dramatic action sequences (although I think its still a strategy game of some kind?).Combat is terribly slow and boring as a mage, especially compared to these movies I'm seeing of Rift and other games.
Hopefully Yoshida is like the producers at Konami.
WAN MIRRION GUIRDREVES
Also, since PS3 version got delayed the team working on it probably got sent back to work on the PC version. Good call.
^what a clusterfuck of a post.
I don't know, I feel like Thanalan, Coerthas, and Mor Dhona region musics are far better than any FFXI track that I can think of outside of some epic boss battle music like Odin's Theme.
Pretty hard to compete with stuff like Rolanberry Fields. (Imo, anyway, one of the only zones I'd actually turn my music on for when bazaaring >.>)
Rolanberry, Jeuno, and San'Doria's bagpipes were all alot more memorable imo.
Comparatively I'd say FFXIV is more background music rather then a full blown score like most vanilla XI music. It's ambient, nice, and matches well with the zones, but it's not very memorable. XI's score will leave a lasting impact on me. Just hearing the Ronfaure theme earlier in this thread was a nostalgia bomb that made me want to re-register XI. I don't think I'll ever get that feeling from XIV.
