Well, the year is just about through...
This thread has two purposes: 1) Talk about games you personally passed over that came out this year(which you may or may not get back to at some point), 2) Talk about games you feel like are not getting much attention(or have been dismissed) by others despite being good or even great. It is not a stupid "GOTY" thread.
If you needed to be reminded what came out this year (a lot of big titles did come out), check out this list on Wikipedia:

Most recently I had to pass over Civilization 5 because I was afraid what it would do to my grades. I have been hearing a lot of bad things about it, but I am still interested in messing around with it within the next three weeks.
Other games I happened to skip:
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars
No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle (100% sure it is a bad, but I want to play bad popular hack and slash games)
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat
Tropico 3
TC's Splinter Cell: Conviction
Nier
Skate 3
Elemental: War of Magic (despite a bad launch)
Ninety-Nine Nights 2 (Pic related)
R.U.S.E.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
Red Dead Redemption
and of course, countless PSP games...
Quite a list. A lot to do. I know for certain I will have to play Castlevania and RDR play. I don't think I will be touching TvC because MvC3 is pretty close. Whether I play STALKER will depend on the mods. I played a lot of SoC, A LOT. It would have to be a lot better than modded SoC to really get me back in.
Now games I think people didn't give a fair try:
VANQUISH
Granted it got some hype, but not nearly enough. Too many bloggers are like "Oh man, it knows its a videogame!" like they haven't been talking about videogames all this time. BG thread is also pathetically short. Probably not going to play a better TPS this or next year or this "generation".
Alpha Protocol
This game got blasted for its classic Obsidian bugginess(which may have been patched?) and so-called "archaic" stat-heavy shooting mechanics. While it doesn't feature the best combat system or level design(well, the level design is pretty good at times with matching character skills up), it has some decent RP elements(which translate to "blows out most of the competition" in videogames). It certainly did a better job than ME2 in that area. Jumping back and forth between cities and having actions and alliances be referenced and used in other cities was quite awesome. The script/voice-acting isn't nearly as bad as I heard people describe it and it can be downright hilarious at times. It also features some badass endings. It was great rebound for me after playing ME2. Too bad there probably won't be another one (or another stat-heavy shooter ever again).
