inb4 the extended cut ending is comprised of all those scenes that some reviewers were seeing in the pre-release cut of the game that never made it to release.

eg, the battle above Earth, Geth Prime shouting "For Legion!", etc

Its a good thing the ending will be free. Hopefully
    Spoiler: show
Control (t.i.m) Synthesis (Saren) endings are absolute shit, while destroy, the only real reasonable ending is good and the whole destroy all synthetics thing is just bullshit so you wouldn't kill reapers.

Its also good that they release this shit before the inevitable, Aria: Take back Omega DLC, and the Illium Invasion DLC. Still want a boss fight with harbinger though.

The player begins the game as a commander of the Precursor starship, who returns to Earth to find it enslaved by the Ur-Quan. It is discovered that the rest of the humans' allies in the war against the Ur-Quan have either been eradicated, put under a slave shield, or put into service as Ur-Quan battle thralls. As the player progresses, it is revealed that the Ur-Quan are fighting an internecine war with the Kohr-Ah, a subspecies of Ur-Quan who believes in eradicating all life in the galaxy, as opposed to enslaving it. The winner of this war gains access to Sa-Matra, a Precursor starship with unparalleled power. The player eventually destroys the Sa-Matra and escapes at the last moment, unconscious. When the player awakes, he finds that the enslaved Earth is free again. At the end of the game, it is revealed that this is all a retelling from the player to his grandchildren.

Y'all should play that game (insert: we already did). Arguably the best space opera video game ever created.

If you've got a hard-on for exploration, no other game in existence will satisfy to the same degree.

Prove me wrong, but everything I'm hearing from Bioware is "Fuck you, we aren't changing the ending, suck it down. You're going to get a few extra scenes, but the star child is still going to be there to rape your will to ever play this game again, Joker is still going to run away, and you will never see your crew again. Suck it."

That'd actually be the ideal response. The day a gaming company literally says those words to it's customers is the day I buy more of their games.

The Eternal Ones are a race of god-like, extra-dimensional beings who consume all sentient life in the Universe from time to time. According to the Daktaklakpak, the Eternal Ones' name comes from their DNA formulae that start as 'Eternal1'. Their complete name is their complete DNA formulae, something so complex that any sentience that tries to learn it all, organic or machine, becomes insane.

The Eternal Ones evolved from sentient organic beings until they lost their material bodies and became pure energy, reaching the verge of transforming into "something else". The Eternal Ones were afraid to evolve and lose their last physical vestige, and made a plan to stop their evolution that required consuming incredible quantities of sentient energy. To harvest sentience in great quantity, the Eternal Ones planted "seeds" throughout the universe that created all the other races in the Star Control universe. The Precursors became aware of this and devolved themselves to non-sentient animals and created semi-sentient machines called Daktaklakpak to re-evolve themselves when the harvest was over. Unfortunately the Daktaklakpak forgot their main objective and started to wander the galaxy collecting and protecting all Precursor technologies. The long-term purpose for the Precursors was to develop an artifact to optimize the harvest for the Eternal Ones. The Precursors had noticed that sentient harvest was incredibly inefficient, and theorized that by optimizing the harvest, there would not be a need for such genocide.

In Star Control 3, the player, as the human leader of the sentient races, foresees the harvest, and unites most races to find a solution. He finds the unfinished artifact and re-evolves a Precursor who helps the player finish it in time for the next harvest. The much greater efficiency of energy absorption allowed by the artifact allows the Eternal Ones to feed without requiring the death of all sentient creatures.
I'm liking the fact that you can see where they reused ideas for mass effect.

Extended Cut may be enough to get me to play through my Paragon save. That being said, I doubt it'll change my views on the ending as a whole.

Also, if you're Bram Stoker writing Dracula, and you let Stephanie Meyer guest-write the final chapter of the book, you have relinquished your right to claim artistic integrity.

I played the demo of ME3, and thought it was pretty cool. Is it worth the money?

Really depends, since it's the third game in the series, you're gonna come into it not really giving a shit about any of the characters. The multiplayer is really well done and I ended up playing quite a bit of it. The ending won't be so bad for you, since you're not invested in the series, but it is still incredibly stupid and insulting. They made drastic strides in the quality of the gameplay from mass effect 1 and again from 2. If you're looking for a tremendous timesink, buy 1 and 2 cheap and by the time you're finished this game will be 20-30 bucks if that.

Also fuuucckk. They should have done the Drew Karpyshyn ending. What a bunch of retards. It's still not mind blowing, but it gets rid of the bullshit deus ex machina x2, (crucible and starchild, fuck as if 1 deus ex isn't bad enough.) and at least kind of makes sense. "We are your salvation through destruction."

Dark energy ending would of been stupid and much worse than the one we got, it makes hardly any sense.

    Dark energy = Ur-Quan Kohr-Ah.
    Reapers = Ur-Quan Kzer-Za.

It makes sense cause it's been done before. It's literally exactly how Star Control II was written.

Looks like another 25% exp bump weekend ; ; I have pretty much stopped playing multi outside of events due to connection issues that have either gotten much worse, or that I am noticing much more the longer I play. Which is a shame, because it is a great multi and it deserves some bug fixes and dedicated servers so much. Hopefully they do some of those things by the time of or in the first DLC.

    Favorite part:

Dear writers: If you create something, and your readers hope that what you just gave them was, in reality, an “it was a dream all along” ending, because that would be better than what you wrote, you seriously. fucked. up.
