I think that dlc, and perhaps others too, should have come with the original CD. Can you explain to me why, from the perspective of a consumer, it benefits us to have so much content being used as dlc rather than being placed on the original CD?

Like ME2, the plan is/was to have the bonus content be for all NEW copies as a way to kill used sales. Somewhere along the line, they decided to charge for it on the standard version i guess.

Youtube doesn't update view count instantly after 300~ views. He has 17k likes on the video alone, once it does update a little later he'll have thousands and thousands of views. Whether you agree with him or not, he's extremely popular and has a pretty big influence on a decent chunk of people.

I had never heard of him either. Watching an uncut play through of the demo while he mutters about how great it will be while simultaneously saying how paying $10 more for what probably isn't game-defining content as he insists it is, has destroyed the game industry, did not turn me into his lemming.

The game already has close to 1 million pre-orders. His video isn't changing anything, and if someone is weak minded enough to let a 20 min rant on Youtube determine their spending practices....well that's a much bigger problem than blowing $10 on some DLC.

Incorrect, the script leaks show he has a ton of dialogue and is a very fleshed out character far more than the usual DLC characters we've grown accustomed to.
He explains a shit ton about the Protheans as well as makes a lot of observations about the other alien races in the Mass Effect universe.

The Prothean is probably in the game you speak with him learn stuff about Protheans and Reapers. Purchase dlc or CE you get an extra mission with the already established char. and some new outfits and weapons. We`ll just have to wait and see. I could understand if they want to counter used game sales, but they could have made the dlc free on condition that you buy the game new. Haha no doubt I see your point. But we do not know how it will all play out. If you guys want on my first playthrough I will skip over the prothean missions, and continue as if I didn`t have it.
Like I pointed out earlier the prothean could already be a character in the game with dialogue and such. But the dlc let`s him become a temporary squadmate a la Lair of the Shadow Broker. Also I believe I read in regards to LotSB and Arrival ME3 already assumes you did those two missions.

The Prothean is optional content that is certainly designed to appeal to long-time fans, which is why he is part of the CE offering (the version many fans would be likely to purchase). Mass Effect 3 is a complete – and a huge game - right out of the box.

- The content in “From Ashes” was developed by a separate team (after the core game was finished) and not completed until well after the main game went into certification.

- The Collectors Edition has been sold out in most places for some time now, and is becoming very hard to find (many players prefer not to purchase the digital version). As such, we wanted to make this content available so that SE buyers could also incorporate the Prothean into their game.

I don't know what to think about this. If it is true, it's a very convenient excuse. A separate team worked on it and completed it after the core game was finished and certified, nonetheless, it's coming out at the same time as the main game.

I wish they would have sold this dlc months after the game's release so i could at least have pretended they weren't pulling my leg.
