    I played Original Mass Effect, imported my character, Mass Effect 2. I completed 2 on one of the middle difficulties, certainly not the highest difficulty.

    Knowing this, is there anything I should do before the new game comes out? I preordered it today.

    They significantly upped difficulty in 3. I'd suggest having at least one renegade and one paragon shep ready. One male and one female

    TL: DR bullshit paragon/renegade ratio system from ME2 is gone. You are free to make paragon/renegade/neutral key choices without being locked out of options as long as your general reputation is high enough.

    To the post above normal mode in ME3 is pretty much veteran mode from ME2 now in terms of difficulty.
