The thing I hated was each power took so long to recharge you're forced to shoot until they do recharge (so with ME2 being a better shooter, I liked the changes). ME2 had short cooldowns, but all powers shared the same timer, meaning you'd specialize in a couple of powers and most others were ignored or really situational.

A compromise would be perfect, a blend of ME1 and 2 would be fantastic.
I can definitely agree with this, but the lack of customization options in the 2nd was the biggest detriment to me. Now, it's not like every Shepard (of the same class) was so unique in the first game either but the 2nd limited it even further. The shooting elements were, as you said, and gameplay-wise I can't say ME 1 was better in any way than ME 2 aside from the powers being on separate cooldowns but the other elements of the game were where the first shined.

I 100% agree that a compromise would be the best thing since sliced bread.

I think they added universal cooldowns to encourage you to use your squard mates moves with yours rather than just your own but yeah it did make certain moves get sidelined by better ones

Agreed. Id def take some of the handling from ME2 and apply it to this third installment. Im also glad they are changing that resource scanning/gathering system that ME2 used, I loathed that system so bad. In the first one I (being a space dood) read and was sucked in by each planet. Reading of its atmospheres, its chemical make up etc and the fact that I could damn near land anywhere I wanted.

you could only land on 1 planet/ship per system in ME1, although I definitely agree that removing planets that serve no purpose beyond exploration in ME2 was a bad move

ME is the only Bioware title Ive played and I'm new to the company in general so I'm curious as to why all the hate on the idea of a ME MMO? I'm not following the Star Wars MMO at all but everyone here is a ME fan, I think a quality ME MMO would be awesome.

I don't hate the idea, but you get used to being Shepard who's the most awesome person in the universe... how do you go from that to a lowly soldier or something just running around doing shit that doesn't feel as important as SAVING THE GALAXY?!

Seriously though, I don't hate the idea. If it's done right it could be awesome, and I love the ME universe so any chance to explore that further is welcome. It really all depends on how good the game play is. Because we all know Bioware can write a good story and good characters, it's just the game play and design that can be very iffy.

The ME lore and universe is so rich, an MMO would be easily created and as long as it played anything like ME2 then I could see it being great.

Maybe it's because I've had tons of conversations about this topic at work with colleagues, but I want a ME MMO.

The only way i'd like it is if they used factions of the Blood Pack, Blue Suns, and Eclipse Mercs, DAoC style, because i've heard good things about that 3 faction system.

Its really pointless to talk about, maybe in 10 years for Bioware's second MMO it would be a good idea, but the MMO market is too saturated right now to even think about it.

It's not pointless to talk about lol, others seem interested in the idea too.

I don't particularly like the idea. Maybe it could work, in some alternate universe where MMOs aren't purpose-driven grind-machines designed to keep you paying a monthly fee. Maybe Bioware would have a way to not turn a Mass Effect MMO into several runs a week into some super-Geth camp hoping to get a rare gun to drop, etc...but judging from their single-player games, they just aren't that innovative. At least not in the broad strokes that it'd take. They're kind of down to tweaking a formula (and making all their properties conform to it), not breaking a mold.

As a universe to put an MMO in? Sure. But it could also work well as a universe to put a bunch more single player games in, a la Ultima, Might and Magic, Elder Scrolls, Fallout...

I think people would rather bioware make another single player mass effect game/spinoff instead of sinking another 60 million bucks into an MMO that nobody wants to play, just like nearly everyone would rather have KOTOR 3 than the Old Republic. I agree the universe/lore of the ME universe would lend itself really well to an MMO, but ME games are nearly just as expansive. It might turn out great, but it's hard not to draw parallels with the Old Republic, which most people have written off completely before it's even released.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not saying "don't make ME3/make it an MMO", "I won't play ME3" or "I need a ME MMO now". I was just mentioning that I would like a ME MMO at some point, whether it now, or in like 5 years.

I'm good without a ME MMO. Like Atreides said, I'd much rather have had KOTOR 3 than Old republic. I would rather they put their time and money into more single player games than sink it all into a MMO.

Was able to get a poster from the GI team last week, had it framed along with my copy of the magazine. Looks good with my bioshock infinite copies and posters in the game room.

Understandable comments about the concept. I like the idea of playing with my freinds in the ME universe a lot, but I'd take another single player ME RPG any day too!

About a year ago I mentioned this to a friend of mine which works at GI in Minneapolis. What I mentioned was the renders used in the "Interview" promos for ME2 in 10'. Were they developed in an early "testing" phase using the ME3 Engine which is currently on the PS3 version already?

It also explains why the renders look so different in comparison to their ME2 in-game counterparts if so. Which makes me wonder how much they've actually changed them in terms of tweaking. I'm feeling the Jack, Miranda seems less bumpy on the face. Take it as you will, all speculation since I've never seen a confirmation from Bioware.

    Shepard:
    Spoiler: show

    Miranda:

    Grunt:

    Jack:

    Mordin:

    Thane:

Also a comparison for Shepard, since its the only thing we have our hands on right now besides a few other lesser of the team (Ashley/etc.)

I had never seen those promo vids, but they were baller as hell - many thanks. I don't know if I would have watched them before a playthrough -- I think it might have ruined some things for me (although once you can easily tell who will be on your team, for the most part).

Every day is agony...my only solace is that soon finals will be done, and I can go play the ME2 DLCs.
