All this talk about indoctrination or a dream just makes me sad.

I've come to realize that the ending we wanted, the ending with many different outcomes based on our choices, was never possible for them. Remember the end of Mass Effect 1? It was generally just the same cutscene. In two, it was the same, sans the type of explosion happening in the collector base. There was no difference. Bioware never intended for there to be different cutscenes for different endings. This is how they write endings. Maybe they'll make a DLC ending that has minor changes to it, but they won't make what we want. They never could.

    Stop deluding yourself.

Anything where the whole story didn't actually happen is a dream sequence.

Ok. A dream sequence is the only way the ending makes sense. Or at the very least makes more sense that what we've been given.

Again, it's borderline pathetic at this point to be dismissing the ending in such a way. I'm not calling you pathetic, I'm saying the act is pathetic. Bioware clearly has no idea how to write a good ending, and it probably won't be fixed.

I loved the first two of these since they were hilarious, but this is just depressing. (Spoliers)

Minus the bit with Joker and the two crew members, the ending makes sense. Everybody you've ever met dies. People just don't seem to like it.

Everyone dying is fine. Shepard leaving the galaxy worse off than the reapers would have left it is not fine.

Anyone tried the claymore shotgun? Thing weights a ton but at lv 2 it has the same dmg as my lv7 geth shotgun

Well, the reapers were going to murder all "advanced" organic life as you know it. Shepard made it so that every alien race, including the "advanced" ones, still have people left on their planet alive and kicking, minus Earth. They're just nuked back into the stone-age and will never travel space the same way.

It's not a whole lot better. But some life is better then total genocide.

I used it in the demo and loved it. Only 1 shot per reload but God damn it's so satisfying. With the accuracy mod you can take off the weakest grunts heads from across the damn map, it's glorious.

Claymore's beastly. Works well with Krogan Soldiers and close-up classes, although it does pack a punch mid-long range for a shotgun as well. Anyone know how the Paladin is? Just unlocked the Scorpion and it's so much fun @.@

Never been a shotgun person but I have a IX geth so I figured I'd do a solo silver run and try it out. OWNED that thing, damn those can be powerful. Almost prefer to solo money online now.

You know what weapon I've been disappointed by so far? The Graal Spike Thrower. Got it in one of the first packs I opened, and I've since managed to get it to III, but the damn thing just isn't useful anywhere but point blank range, and even then it doesn't ever seem to inflict nearly as much damage as the stat would suggest, even fully charged. That and the reticule is so small and bleh.

My Katana and Claymore just blow it out of the water for whatever reason.

Talk about what went into the ending

    Spoiler: show

Mac Walters on the Star Child/Reapers
"Originally, with the catalyst, the star child at the end of the game, I had written that much more in the guise of a investigative style conversation, where there is something he tells you but then, you get to ask a bunch of questions and you get your questions answered. But then me and Casey talked and decided, lets keep the conversation "High level". Give you the details that you need to know, but don't get into the stuff that you don't need to know. Like "How long have they been reaping?" You don't need to know the answers to the mass effect universe. So we intentionally left those out"

Casey on after Mass Effect 3
"Whatever we do would likely happen before or during the events of Mass Effect 3, not after"

    On delaying the game
In march 2011, he also faced a roomful of Mass Effect developers who expressed concern about hitting the promised holiday release date... New release date set for March 2012. After much deliberation, the CAT mission (or rather, the Prothean mission) had to be removed from the set of tasks. The missions would later be completed as post-release content"

    Casey on the End Boss
'We had the final fight with the Illusive man in the game, but it just felt very Video Gamey. It didnt fit in with the themes. And really, is there a point of the end boss if only for the sake of an end boss?'

The article also states 'Although art was created for this sequence, it was ultimately dropped because it felt too predictable to end the series on a massive boss battle.'

    On Tali's Face
We eventually decided that she gives you a memento of her pictures, but the team was throwing around a lot of pictures and designs until we decided on something and said "Yup, that's her".

On Deciding the End of the Game
The illusive man boss fight had been scrapped... but there was still much debate. 'One night walters scribbled down some thought on various ways the game could end with the line "Lots of speculation for Everyone!" at the bottom of the page.'

In truth the final bits of dialogue were debated right up until the end of 2011. Martin sheen's voice-over session for the illusive man, originally scheduled for August, was delayed until mid-November so the writers would have more time to finesse the ending.

And even in November the gameplay team was still experimenting with an endgame sequence where players would suddenly lose control of Shepard's movement and fall under full reaper control. (This sequence was dropped because the gaemplay mechanic proved too troublesome to implement alongside dialogue choices).

    No hope

    Tali part made me laugh,
We eventually decided that she gives you a memento of her pictures, but the team was throwing around a lot of pictures and designs until we decided on something and said "Yup, that's her".
Then they proceeded to shoop the stock photo with adobe photoshop.
