My FPS with those settings stay at a consistent 55-60 FPS usually just sitting at 60. The CPU cooler is just the default one that came with the CPU.

    L o freaking L.

Yeah upgrade your CPU cooler. Get a Corsair H50. Will probably drop your temps 20-30 degrees F

    PSU: Corsair 750-W
    RAM: 4GB 1600
    GPU: XFX Radeon 6870
    Driver: 10.11

Applications running: Fraps, Catalyst Control Center and FFXIV.

    Game Settings:
    Windowed
    1680x1050
    Multisampling: No AA
    General Drawing: 6
    Background Drawing: 4
    Shadow Detail: Standard
    Ambient Occlusion: No
    Depth of Field: No
    Texture Quality: High
    Texture Filtering: Highest

Everytime I play the game no matter what kind of traffic there is near my character my computer activity is 45-70% and the temperature runs at 73-77 C.

    Any suggestions?
I'm assuming that's the graphics card temperature? I'm pretty sure Phenoms won't run on those temperatures. 73-77 isn't a disaster for your GPU, but I don't know if it's healthy in the long run. Check fan speed in catalyst control center, maybe the default speed is really low.

Actually, 10.11 catalyst drivers don't support the 6800 series, so that might be your problem. Use the 10.10e hotfix drivers, or the 10.12 drivers that were released today (I don't know if there are any issues with the latter though).

Edit: If by "computer activity" you're refferring to GPU activity, those temperatures are definitely not okay.

yes, that's the GPU temperature. The fan speed is typically 30-35% and its pretty loud at 35% so I don't particularly want to enable manual fan control to move it higher. =(

Maybe I have bad airflow in my case? This was the first case I made... Maybe I just didn't manage the space correctly?

Edit: Downloaded the new 10.12 Catalyst you mentioned, I'll give it a whirl and see how it performs.

I think so. The "Activity" I'm referring to is the second meter in my catalyst control center in between "Temperature" and "Fan Speed"

Those temps are perfectly normal for a GPU then

If you don't know what the meters mean, then don't pay attention to them lol

wow, i didn't even realize the config settings changed with the recent patches until reading this thread. with my interest in the game coming back i'd like to figure out optimal settings, so i'll post what i use now (the game looks and runs perfect on my rig, but the settings haven't been touched since around launch day) and then try to contribute to figuring out what's best. i haven't tested anything concerning temps or fps (i do have all the utils to do so, just haven't gotten into tweakin/OCing this system yet), but the game runs awesome on my i7-950 (not-oc'd, yet), 6gb Corsair DDR3 1600, EVGA X58 FTW mobo, Radeon 5850.

current untouched FFXIV config settings: 1080p, 4x MSAA, General Drawing 8, Background Drawing 5, Shadow Standard, AO off, DoF on, Texture Quality High, Texture Filtering High. if i can remember correctly turning AO on was causing a huge hit, is this accurate and does it still cause that? also i'm pretty sure i could bump AA to 8x and not hurt performance, although i could be wrong on that. hopefully tomorrow i can load the game up and screw around a bit.

kind of cool they added the option to change the game font. anyone find a good choice for this option yet? - i don't really dislike the default game font though.

edit: just noticed you said new catalyst was out today, i was on 10.11, i'll update that as well. thanks!

Ok, fired up my wife's PC and took a look at the settings.
Everything maxed and checked (except General Drawing was at 8 ). This is what she has been using since they updated the graphics settings. She runs 60fps with drops to the 40s
I upped from 8 to 10 and it dropped to 20-40. huge change... I didn't bother disabling SLI as I dont really care how it works with only one GPU.
I could not see a difference between the 8 and the 10 [graphically]. But I see a huge difference from my PC to hers [graphically]. I'm running 930, 280 with medium+ settings.

Just as a test, turn on Depth of Field and Ambient Occlusion temporarily in the FFXIV config. Run out to a field anywhere in-game and see what happens to the temp in Catalyst CC. If it stays below 80C, you don't have to worry about temps and can leave the fan speed on default.

Are the fps numbers being thrown around from out in the field with no other players around? And the area makes a big difference too, the shrubs/trees of La Noscea rape a video card, but Thanalan is very tame. And what about in the pile of bazaars in Uldah? I have no probs with getting 60 out in the field but in Uldah I get down to low 20s and cannot find a way to up that any it seems... with a [email protected] and 5870.

I also have the same issue on a similar spec system:

    I7 [email protected] ghz
    6GB ram
    Windows 7 64 bit
    GTX 470 @ 770

It doesn't matter what I changed in towns, my FPS stutters like mad between 20-30ish FPS. Ive noticed using MSI afterburner that it only uses 25% of my GPU in town for some reason and when I go out into the field it jumps to 60%ish.

Anyone experience odd GPU usages percentages?

Here's some interesting information by the way. La Noscea and Thanalan run at 60FPS. The Black Shroud runs at 90FPS, and the boat from Thanalan to La Noscea runs at a whopping 240 FPS.

When you log out of the game, the black screen is 120 FPS

Does seem to be a bit more jittery after today's update, at least in towns. I blame the snow lol.

i ended up getting pissed enough to roll back to 10.11 and the game is running fine again (i was actually on 10.9 before yesterday). so my rig isn't getting along with 10.12 i guess, and didn't have anything to do with the patch.
