As others have said, Kuya, if you want good fitting, good looking, dress-shirts, you need to go to a tailor and either have them re-fit a shirt you liked, or make you one from scratch. It's less expensive than you'd think most of the time, my tailor only charges $10 to custom-fit any piece of clothing I bring.

Those people who look great in one, aren't buying them off the shelf and then wearing them, seriously.

I second this. Any of the Arrow Fitted shirts work really well for thinner guys and don't really give any side poof. I'll also throw another vote for the Express fitted shirts.

I think i'm going to insist on checking out Express, since so many people are recomending it, but i will look into a tailor. I'm just not really sure what to start doing first.

Tailors are nice because in addition to fit, you can select your collar and cuff types.

Oh, I meant as in they've got the materials, you go in, they'll measure you, you say I want this style collar, these cuffs, how the back is(pleated, etc).

This is all MTM though, never brought in for alterations

Nice department stores usually have half made shirts. You pick collar and such and they put together the parts you need. Don't need to bring anything.

A lot of my broke friends go to the GoodWill to get dress shirts and things for reeeeeeeeaaally cheap and then spend $10 getting them fitted at a tailor. If I was broke then that's what I would do

But really, it's not a bad idea. People will give away $100-200 shirts to the GoodWill and they will turn around and sell them for $5. Granted, you need to know what you're looking for, but even if you don't you can still take a cheap shirt and get it tailored to look like $100 for 10

Getting off the rack shirts altered by a tailor is relatively cheap, and one of the best clothing investments ever if you find a good tailor. Nearly all of my dress shirts require me to get the waist suppressed (usually darts), and the sleeves shortened. Of course you can also have them make the shirts obviously but depending on the tailor and material you want, it can get pricey.

Depends, as someone said, depending on where you buy, they may have an in-house tailor who basically will alter the clothes they sell for a small fee. Or find one in google/yellowpages/wordofmouth/etc.

Basically they just take your measurements and then alter the item to fit your exact dimensions, which is exactly what you want. All the "good" photos in this thread show shirts that were fitted to the wearer(and the ones you didn't like probably weren't, you can SEE all the extra bagginess of the shirts on them).

Seriously a fitted shirt is the biggest difference between looking good and looking like a dbag who doesn't know how to dress himself.

Don't have to tell me twice. The problem is finding a tailor.

I'm learning so much, especially since I'm like Atre and somewhat Kuya as far as body type goes...fucking narrow shoulders. Gotta save this thread or something.

What shirts did you look at, at Banana Republic? Their Slim Fit are amazing for me. Avoid Classic fit.

Look for "Slim fit" or "European cut", it's the style that is most popular now and what you see on TV/ads/magazines.

Some designers have brand specific names for slim fit and european cut, but almost all carry them now.

If you can order from JC Penny's, I got a Van Buren (I believe that's what it is). It's a nice fit and doesn't poof out when tucked in.
