    Spoiler: show
did anyone catch the name in the crane cleaning up Tonys place? It went by too quick, but I was hoping it said Damage Control. Especially after name dropping Roxxon a few times

Looks like someone hasn't been to the Superman thread in a while.

Caught the last IMAX 3D screening of this. Was kinda disappointed. I guess The Avengers really set the bar high for what Marvel's movies can do. But then again, Whedon wasn't involved, so yeah.

    Spoiler: show
I never read the comics, but after hearing of the plot details I read a lot up on Extremis and the Mandarin. Pretty lame how they played out in the film. Mandarin especially.

I'll prolly watch it again when it's on bluray/Netflix. Maybe.

I wasn't even bothered by the Mandarin twist because it was a pretty clever twist and the whole terrorist angle is about as fucking beat to death as humanly possible. What did the Mandarin do that couldn't have been any generic Bin Laden clone? Nothing.

Magic Rings? In a series that has tried to play itself as realistic? Yeah... even the mk. 42 was a stretch along with Extremis but magic rings belongs in the Avengers, not Iron Man.

I'm more dissapointed with Killians motivations. That could have been fleshed out better than what audiences got.

pretty sure realism flew out the window in the first iron man, buddy. its a fucking movie.

    Spoiler: show
i would have been happy with the rings for mandarin, IM3 is a post avengers movie. they've already touched on the other realms and it is all out there now.

It's a series that has tried to ground itself in some realism. Now if that realism works or not is a subject of debate but the Mandarin is a giant asian stereotype and a cartoonish villain at that which I why I bet the filmmakers decided to lampshade him. The filmmakers set up the rules of this film series and magic rings would have been one giant leap into the bizarre. All of the villains in the film series are businessmen with varying levels of ego and insanity driving their motivations.

That's realistic and an overarching theme.

The Avengers is the realm of the supernatural and even though events bleed into IM3 as an important plot device it doesn't change the fact that IM1/2 tried to be "realistic" and so the third entry follows suit. If we're going to let Avengers complete drive IM3 then why the hell didn't Stark get on the phone with Cap, Banner and SHIELD to handle the threat as a team? You'd think threats to national security would ping somewhere on Fury's radar.

I actually felt bored during the movie. 8/10. Fake spoilers were better.

Entertaining but a pretty meh movie. If Pepper had actually died it would have been much better. "Clean slate" was dumb as fuck.

lol at the comically in your face FIOS ad placement at the end.

I am not a comics reader and thus had no opinion/knowledge on the stories depicted in IM3 beforehand.
I just saw this and I thought it was really fun. Not as good as Avengers, but definitely not boring.

I think for me the Tony Stark character's sarcasm and snark really makes movies that include him more enjoyable for me than other action movies. Comedy (especially of the sarcasm variety) has always attracted me more than straight-up drama or action.

So I would have to say that I really liked this movie, but I had no thoughts beforehand from reading the comics so that could be a major reason I liked it more than others did...

I thought it was a good film on its own, but if you consider the comic book back story it does a great injustice to the Manderin.

The ending of the film though was very vague. I thought Stark's operation was just to remove the shrapnel, and whatever he tossed at the end was just the component of the arc reactor that kept the shrapnel at bay? I mean he couldn't survive without the arc reactor... unless he used extremis to regenerate his own heart. That would make sense but if that were the case you'd think they'd say that instead of leaving it up to the audience to guess it.

The product placement was quite annoying and obvious. I usually don't mind since it helps pay the bills, but at least try a little harder then that. All around the movie just doesn't live up to the rest of the marvel (sans fox owned) movies. I definitely won't be buying this one on bluray; probably won't even bother torrenting it, it was just that forgettable.

You have to watch the Iron Man films more as a comedy than a serious Sci-Fi comic based film, if more people in this thread just watched it as a film and stopped comparing it to the comic book arcs you'd have enjoyed it alot more and suffered alot less butthurt.

lol, so basically watch it like Transformers and witness your favorite characters and story lines get shat on by Hollywood.

Or just enjoy them as their own phenomenon?

Just because the movies don't follow the comic books to the letter doesn't invalidate the nature of either medium.

Saw today, was fun. Pepper dying would have been serious as hell, not really the tone Ironman has set. People take their movies too seriously.

Good fun, wish the theater was less crowded.

We had tickets to a crammed theater but they moved us to a not-so-crammed one. Still had a group of high school kids sitting behind us talking throughout the first half.

I'm not even comparing it to comic book arcs. It's not that it was a bad Iron Man movie, or a bad comic book movie, I just thought it was a bad movie period.

And yes, there have been comedic moments in the films, but no one ever let up with the god damn wise cracks no matter what the situation was in this one. It worked for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (Shane Black's last movie with Downey Jr), but that did not work at all for this movie. It never felt suspenseful in the slightest.
