It looks like there's a strong possibility that screenwriter/director Shane Black could end up replacing Jon Favreau in the directors chair for Iron Man 3. Favreau already announced that he would not come back to direct the third Iron Man film, so the job needs to be filled. Why not hire the guy who wrote some awesome action comedies in his career? Black's credits include The Monster Squad, all the Lethal Weapon films, and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. The only film that Shane has directed is Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which I thought was great.

I think it would be awesome to see Black take on Iron Man 3, he would not only direct the film but write it as well if officially brought on board. I would love to see what he comes up with. Of course there are absolutley no story details regaurding the film at this time but it will involve Robert Downey Jr. reprising his role as Tony Stark / Iron Man. As of right now nothing is set in stone and the studio is still looking at other filmmakers, but Black has definitely made the list.

Today it's been confirmed that Black is officially signed on to direct the movie.

Shane is mostly known for his writing, but there's still no word on if he will write the script for the third Iron Man film yet. According to a source they haven't figured that part out yet. They might as well hire him to write the script as well, I bet he could do some really fun and great things with it.

Shane is currently working on an adaptation of the classic pulp book series Doc Savage for Sony, and is also working on developing a live action adaptation of the Japanese manga series Death Note for Warner Bros.

Iron Man 3 is scheduled to be released on May 3rd, 2013.

When it was announced that Shane Black would be directing Iron Man 3 a lot of the fan boys and girls were happy about this. The guy has written quite a few of Hollywood blockbusters including the Lethal Weapon series. Now he's announced that he will also be writing Iron Man 3, and that it'll be more like a Tom Clancey thriller. While making an appearance at the Omaha Film Festival yesterday he spilled a little on what he has in store. All info courtesy of Aint It cool News via JoBlo.

"[Shane Black] is scheduled to meet with Robert Downey Jr. this week when he returns to L.A. Downey will be contributing to the story and Shane will be writing it in addition to directing.

The studio was not happy with the direction Iron Man 2 took. Iron Man 3 will not be another 'two men in iron suits fighting each other' film. Instead, it will be more like a Tom Clancy-thriller, with Iron Man fighting real world villians.

Iron Man 3 will be made after The Avengers and will not feature any other heroes from the Marvel Universe. Marvel is only doing crossover characters to lead up to The Avengers, and once that film is released, the plan is to go back to self-containted single-character stories."

Iron Man 3 is probably the best script I've read in five years, which is so funny. I mean, things have come so full circle that a genre superhero movie can actually be the most artistic bit of writing I read. But I think The Avengers is something a lot of the fans are really looking forward to, so I'm excited about that. The third Iron Man to me is an opportunity to go back to the kind of storytelling and character exploration that made the first one good

Multiple sources have told ComicBook.com that shooting for Iron Man 3 will begin prior to The Avengers hitting theaters May 4th, weeks ahead of previously published dates. The film is scheduled to be shot in Wilmington, NC at the EUE/Screen Gems Studios and is believed to be the largest production ever to be filmed in North Carolina.

Previous reports have listed late May as the official production start date, but one source close to the North Carolina operations said that Marvel “will have staff in Wilmington as early as mid-March, with shooting scheduled to begin the last week of April or the first week of May.”

Asked to verify the report, Marvel Studios said they do not officially comment on current or future development but indicated the reports were likely accurate. An e-mail update from that same Marvel Studios source told ComicBook.com, “It is not April for sure.”

I personally think the Hypervelocity armor was the best, I like it better than the current one. Hell the HV armor is so advanced he cant wear it now, its too fast

Just found out my stepdad is working on the set for this. Doing the cabling/wiring etc. Pretty cool.

It's funny how amusing it is to know somebody who's been on a film set.

A guy I used to work with in the Air Force has been an extra in both the first and second movies.
