    Weapon Repairs

So... how do you guys cope ?

Unlike armor/accessories, after 30 to 60 mins of usage, most weapons will have reached <=50% durability, lowering the effectiveness of its stats (accuracy, damage output, ...).

    So I was wondering if:
    - You carry 5x the same weapon at all times. When one goes yellow/red, you put it up for repairs.
    - You leveled up craft x, y & z to be able to repair your weaps in the field.
    - Your buddy with whom you always party has leveled up craft x, y & z.
    - After 60 mins you run back to town/camp to find someone who can repair.
    - You think repairing is for pussies, real men use 1 dura weaps.
    - You never repair, letting the party do the damage while you leech of Behest/leves/grind.
    - ...

My highest DoW is only r35, but I feel kinda forced to rank up blacksmith before continuing it. Knowing that I'll be fucked over again at r48 or so, since the highest marauder weapon needs goldsmith repairs. Sure, there's goldsmith buddies in LS, but I'm not always out on the field with them...

If weapons degraded as slow as armor/accessories, I wouldn't really mind and just ask LS members for repairs after getting back to town. Or just put it up for repair in bazaar. You know, like Leeroy, "at the end of the day".

I know they put this in to mess with RMT/botting, but I feel like the only people they are really bothering with it are genuine players.

So, how do you guys work around the system?

I bring materials to parties and often can find someone able to repair, if there is no one I just don't bother. Most parties I'm in last 6-8 hours, can't be bothered running back to town every 30 minutes.

The changes SE have done to the whole repair system made it a lot more player-friendly but the wear rate is absurdly retarded.

This is one of the reasons I quit two months back. R29 leathercraft and people always sending me tells to repair their gear or even stopping me as I was playing my DoW class in the field to have me repair 4 pieces of gear for 2k. It's just unneeded downtime to fix something stupid and becomes this 2nd job sort of thing that you come to hate. The weapon durability is even worse. You can't log in, play for 1-2 hours grinding/leves/whatever and log out without needing something repaired. It's just too much and one of the big reasons I can't stand the game. They need to considerably reduce the rate at which all gear degrades especially weapons. 20 hours of playtime should be enough for you to require repairs, not this 1-2 hour crap. Again they're taking this 'realistic' aspect of the game wayyyyyy too far. Accessories should have their wear completely removed as having them to worry about too is again just over the top and very much unneeded.

As for the original question, I'd just carry a second weapon and put the first up for repairs when needed. If you're still partying by the time the second one needs repairs just screw it. It's SE's shitty system, just power through.

I wouldn't mind it so much if the game had a system that auto-equipped your character with the best available equipment whenever you changed classes (which isn't that hard to do and is something I think we'll see at least an option for in the near future). Its annoying to know that if I switch to tailor for a moment to patch up something, then switch back to my mage, I'll have to re-equip not only all of that gear, but all of those skills.

Sure there are macros, but this system is extremely painstaking and, more importantly, slow. Its just another example of SE apparently wanting you to do everything extremely slow for God knows what reason. Maybe they wanted to string out subscriptions longer by making everything take longer, but that model no longer has mass appeal.

The wear rate itself is annoying. Every spell, every attack, everything you do essentially breaks down your weapon. The sheer speed of degradation is just maddening, and with the limited amount of true "storage" space, not everyone has the ability to lug around 5 of each weapon, especially if their inventory is packed to the gills with crafting mats.

The good news with having such shitty systems is that there's so much to tweak that SE will never be bored!

What I have feared the most about this system is when you do gather to do (eventual) linkshell events and end-game activities... the first 30 minutes or so will be wasted on people getting their shit repaired since you will have all those high level crafts finally gathered in one spot.

This already happened in my LS the first few times we did the pre-patch 15-man SP parties. Spent the first 20-25 minutes sitting around waiting as people changed to their crafts to repair gear.

Anytime I lead anything if people don't have their shit repaired too bad, we're heading out. Sorry about your damn luck. As long as that approach is used for end game it would be acceptable, as is I can put anything in my bazarr seeking repair and go afk for the night and come back with it fixed.

I already craft... I carry all mats to repair all my gear. Nothing on me I can't repair. (well excluding craft tools over lv 32)

Leveled up blacksmithing to keep up with my sword. Swords wear ridiculously fast, and your effectiveness is notably reduced even on weak stuff when it hits 0 durability. There's no good way to deal with it besides being able to fix it, until/unless SE changes how it works. Unless you happen to have a static duo buddy who can fix it ... but that's the same solution with the burden just placed on someone else. I'm soloing my ranks at 32 now, and it's obnoxious to have to repair my weapon every 30 minutes. It's worked so far, but will have problems once I hit rank 40 or so because my blacksmithing isn't keeping pace at a 1:1 rate.

trying to play like this too, but everytime i hit certain rank on DoW/DoM i need to craft for couple weeks on several classes until i can repair all my equip again, at least when i hit 50 i will have most crafts over 30.

I cant help to feel thats the way SE wants us to play. Doesnt seem so casual.

I don't think they are expecting anyone to be self sufficient. They probably expect people to have linkshells, friends, companies, and place things in bazaars and sit in the Menders Ward.

It's just that the current state of the game is having an adverse effect on the longevity of your friends and linkshell mates' interest. Working hard to maintain self sufficiency is probably just the smartest way to play for now.

I have a Banneret Lance, an Iron Halberd, and a Champion's Lance. I also have a Heavy Iron Lance for backup. I only use weapons that I know can be repaired either by myself or by someone I see on an extraordinarily regular basis. When leveling, I used an Iron Lance all the way to R50 because it was the best weapon that I could repair by myself.

My post was more about the wear rate of weapons vs other pieces of gear and how it affects you while out leveling in the field. People in my LS can repair 100% of my gear, but we're not all in the same group at all times, sometimes they're just crafting in other towns or whatever....

In the field, when it comes to weapons and because they degrade so quickly, you have the "choice" of being self sufficient for repairs or being (somewhat) gimp. Or just packing multiple weapons until you run out (& hope someone repairs your shit while at a camp).

For now, I will probably try to get BSM higher and carry multiples of the weapons I can't repair.

Kinda sucks to.. you know sit n shout in town every.. 3-4 hours (at the rate a weapon breaks especially) to get a weapon thats in the red repaired >.>

Between the low amount of people with high 30-40+ crafts these days, and repair people not wanting to repair usually because most people offer very low amount of gil , it takes time to get stuff repaired.

Much rather be able to repair it out in the field, when its needed right then, and not look for anyone in town thats 45min+ run from my current location
Maybe if anime regained fast enough that i could of gone to town to repair and had someone waiting on me to repair my stuff for me constantly...

Seriously, nothing annoys me more than totally insulting repair offers. I'm not even greedy about it, but don't be dumb. Hell, my guildmates offer more than most randoms and they don't even have to. The only time I will ever put something up for 1g is when a guildmate expressly refuses any money, and even then it kills me. Be nice, be generous (asking a lot in the current community I know).

problem is, we dont know what the repair items cost. from 10-25 I put my items up for 100g, none of them stayed up long so it seems that 100g is enough.

Hermes Shoes are the only thing I cant get repared, dont even know if the item exists or what it costs.

Sure we can look it up or offer the repair mat as reward... but what do you guys consider insultingly low?

i wont repair anything for less than 1k.. even lower level stuff.

i never seek for repairs because i craft nonstop so i wont need it, but if i did, i would do it like this

    1k for really easy mats
2k for easy mats but mid rank
5k for easy mats high rank

    5-10k for harder mats

Also, you can have the NPC repair any rank-1 shit for like 50~200 gil, even bonus items that require high-rank materials.

Why would someone repair an item when the only reward is the repair mat? Basically it's like giving away your time for free. For me, I won't repair anything under 5k. It's a convenience issue. Unless I already have my tool out I have to switch class, and perform the repair. Sure, it only takes 1 minute. But how much is that minute worth, how much is the time it took you to get to your current crafting rank worth? For me, unless it's an LSmate, 5k is my starting price, 10k is automatic. Anything in between, it depends how I feel. I guess that might sound greedy, but I didn't spend all those hundreds of hours grinding through surplus to repair a Champion's lance for 500 gil.
