I don't use the YG updater myself, I just go in and do it all manually. It gives me something to do in the space of time I would usually be using to do stuff in the MMO I play but can't because there is nothing to do. Does the updater work well, does it pick up your own bazarr as well as update your retainer in real time, or only when you check your retainer?

Works great. I haven't bothered with FFXIVPRO since they put out the updater since it updates my bazaar as soon as I list the item, as well as any check. I also don't bother browsing the wards any more. If it isn't listed on YG on someone's bazaar I don't waste my time.

I still check random retainers, in order to contribute to the site. One time someone was sold out, but the guy next to him had what I wanted lol. I think letting retainers wear stuff is ingenious. Whenever I am in the dreaded battlecraft ward I avoid anyone who isn't wearing a weapon.

I haven't played around with the armour/weapon modeling on the retainers but I have seen other's wearing it and their model changing when I purchase the item. How do you determine what your retainer wears? Do you get an option? What if you are trying to sell several different types of weapons/armour?

I have no idea how it prioritizes what equipment your retainer will wear over other pieces, but there's simply an option to adjust the fashion/visual/etc. mode of your retainer when you've summoned them within a ward. I have like 5 body pieces ranging from rank-5 to rank-37 in my bazaar and my retainer prefers to wear a fuckin' bronze chainmail.

They have invested so much into this retainer system and a huge re-code of a system like that to change it into an AH would not be wise at this time with all the other changes that need to be made to the game. Face it, as much as most people would like an AH (myself included) it is probably not going to happen and the best we can hope for is that they keep tweaking the retainer system to function much like an AH.

Mine always want to wear Scouting Jackets over Leather Jerkins, Velveteen Doublet Vests, Coatees, or anything else I put up for sale, regardless of the order I put them up for sale. Likewise w/ Thighboots > all other types of boots.

Yeah, when what a retainer is wearing is purchased, it immediately switches gear to the next item of that slot or back to their default clothing if there's nothing else. I totally agree that it should prioritize by price or even by rank... that would make the most sense.

Use yg updater. Have all your friends use yg updater. Randomly check some retainers of people who don't use yg updater. Congrats, you basically have an AH which only requires some legwork. It has the same degree of functionality as FFXIAH, which was more useful than the in-game AH at a small cost of update time. Until the PS3 launch anyway. But with item search, that probably won't even be necessarily a problem.

So basically, an AH isn't a big deal. You might want one, but you need to admit that it isn't even in the top 5 problems. Not top 10 either if you are smart enough to do what I said.

Even with YG it still isn't like an AH because it isn't real-time data. I think I have found 1/50 items I have gone looking for because I found them listed on YG. The only thing that makes the system more frustrating than it already is, is to think you are getting an item only to finally find the retainer that had it listed and the item is long gone.

It is easily abused to trick the customer into thinking the current prices are accurate/fair by filling up the history with false sales. Its a bad idea all around.

I just tried running YG updater for the first time, game crashed 2 times in a 1.5 hour period. Might be a coincidence, but being able to play reliably and manually updating my/retainer's bazaars is better then the alternative imo.

Well when you see a retainer that hasn't been updated for 1d+ then you just have to take your chances at the item being there. It's still 100 times better than wading through 2000 retainers to find the Scouting Jacket +1 you are looking for.

I feel like I'm bashing my head against a wall responding to these comments.

"Fixed" price history doesn't mean d*ck unless the price "fixer" actually has control of the market.

- If they don't have control of the market, other sellers will still be selling at whatever price they feel comfortable with, so they (the fixers) will have wasted listing fees/taxes trying to wipe the history.
- If they do have control of the market, price history or not, you (the buyer) WILL get raped. "Fixing" the history just saves the buyer the trouble of guessing their way up to the price point that a monopolist has set; they (the sellers) are directly telling you what the new market value is. (Of course, buyers always have the option to do without if the monopolist is too greedy.)

You might be inclined to argue that even without control of the market, wiping the price history will unfairly set prices high. If the item is scarce enough that history wiping is financially viable (without dumping profit-busting amounts of money to sellers that are not in on the fix), guess what? The item is almost certainly underpriced as is. And if people are willing to pay the fixed price, and non-fixed sellers are willing to sell at the fixed price, you have just witnessed a market correction. The item is worth what people will pay for it.

Price changes that YOU don't like (be they up or down) are not necessarily a failure of the market.
