    Severe Lag while multitasking

This may not be resolvable, but I figured I might as well ask. Since moving, I haven't been able to do anything with FFXI + Firefox without noticeable lag. Specifically, even loading a page on BG will impose severe lag while playing FFXI. I know it has worked before since it worked before I traveled home, so the other thing different (From my less technical perspective) is the connection set up and the internet service (Verison DSL). Are there any fixes or remedies (Not fixes, but will help alleviate the problem)?

    1. Post your computer specs. (Processor, GPU, RAM, & OS.)
    2. Go to http://speedtest.net -- run a test, post your results.

GPU is your graphics card. Which is irrelevant here because I can see that it's your connection and not your computer.

What kind of networking do you have in your house? i.e. what kind of router, how many PCs, etc.

Is it BG in particular, a particular thread on BG maybe...I know I've seen image-heavy threads really hit my DSL connection noticeably, though of course it's fine once the images are downloaded. Still, if you're browsing the Random Image thread...there can be 40-60MB of pictures on a default post count page, all trying to download at once. I can stream Hulu or Netflix fine, but an image heavy page can still cripple the connection. Some of the sigs n' all can be large too, though that shouldn't be an issue once you've downloaded them.

My solution was to get cable internet, which for me is much faster (may depend on ISP and package of course).

I think it's a lynxis (SP) there are two computers attached to the router. One near the entrance of the house and one cable that stretches to my room.

Edit: The other computer is unplugged at the moment.

That's pretty low, is that the kind of speed you'd expect usually from your ISP? That's about 60 kb/s, wouldn't be surprised to lag while loading a page.

If it gives you any perspective of how slow your internet is going, my 3G phone tether gets 1.6mbps and 4G gets 5.5mbps.

Give me your Linksys router model number. It can be located underneath the unit itself. Also, go to Start > Run > cmd > ipconfig -- Alt+Printscreen, and post it here.

Sorry about the delay. The model is WRT54GS v1.1

The Alt+Printscreen isn't doing anything that lets me paste, so I'm going to just make a picture of it and upload.

Edit: Here we go (Text). Also, @ Isiolia, I notice pages like the Drops page for FFXI makes the most lag, but it seems like any page loading does it as well.

I don't suppose you know what your ideal speed is supposed to be, do you? Haven't seen a DSL tier that low before. My first thought would be to disconnect your router and test your speed directly from the modem, but that would presumably involve un-bridging the modem and I dunno how complicated that'd be for you.

I'm not sure either. At some point today I can try plugging it directly into the modem and seeing how it goes. Of course, I can't leave it like that since the other computer needs internet as well.
