The Item Search Feature (12/21/10) (Also Version update patch notes)

Now, all we need is this search function to list all the prices with Retainers names' next to them. Then, add a "Buy Now" option which will put the item in your inventory/mail for a 3% surcharge. After all that is said and done, we can have the search cross-city search and search all the wards instead of the specific one.

I didn't go into the tinkers but from last I saw on my server Battlecraft was still filled up with stupid.

Huge improvement from the hell it started out as... but it still has a long way to go.

P.S. There will never be an "AH" because it's obvious what they're trying to do with the Market Wards.

Glad for a step in the right direction, but still wondering how they'll come up with a fix for selling different item types. Maybe they should make a npc window you talk to that will automatically list your items for sale at whatever price you want in the appropriate ward. Then the next patch players can just talk to that npc item to search all wards and automatically buy the item right then and there. Finally the patch after that they can remodel the wards into an indoor chocobo racing circuit complete with dancing moogles.

A quick look in battlecraft before I left for leves showed people still crowding in there as usual. SE can't fix stupid.

the stupid don't matter anymore, they are only hurting themselves now, which is a big plus for this update. It only took 2-3 minutes for my items to show up.

definitely rather have it than not, but it's pretty damn underwhelming in terms of features. kinda mind boggling, though i knew in my heart SE couldn't be trusted to get things right.

There has always been insane undercutting (well not undercutting just wildly varying prices) on my server; it's just that no one had easy means of determining what others charged. I have been able to buy a bow for 60k, check 2 more retainers, find it listed for 12k, so I buy that as well and list one of them for 80k and still sell it.

This search system is fucking stupid, plan and simple. It's lazy, half assed and just plain stupid. At least it's better then nothing.

It's too bad more people don't use this http://ffxiv.yg.com/yg-updater.

If SE had a built in program like that and published the shit on Lordstone so you could just search Lordstone for w/e you need w/e you need it.

Right. Turn it into an AH in which you have to physically go find and pick up the item.

While, like I said, there's a long ways to go before this system is up to par with any other successful MMORPG's market system, it's pretty ridiculous how much people are exaggerating and embellishing the inconvenience of getting your item from a bazaar after searching it. Are you in a massive hurry to get your next weapon and jump back into grinding on Coblyns? There's always a massive crowd of AFK people at XI's Auction Houses, I don't think there's a ton of rush needed until there's an establish standard for food and other usable items that one would need to grab for themselves or others before an event (none of which quite exist yet). I just hope that they create some conveniences to counteract this by the time there's anything important to do in the game... for now, it doesn't really matter.

Not everyone likes to have a packet sniffer snooping around their system, even if the use is legit. Besides it slows down traffic for just that few micro-seconds needed for you to snipe your opponent in other games.

Indeed. It's also pretty ridiculous how many people are trying to justify this completely unnecessary additional step. Like you said, it's an inconvenience. Why? For what? What does this add to the game? What would be lost in adding an AH?
